President Trump wants to extend the $600 weekly benefit to unemployed Americans
Gray Washington News Bureau ^ | August 4, 2020 | Jacqueline Policastro

Posted on 08/04/2020 7:55:53 PM PDT by White Lives Matter

.THE WHITE HOUSE (Gray DC) - In a broadcast exclusive, President Donald Trump tells Gray Television Washington Bureau Chief Jacqueline Policastro he’s ready to step in to provide another stimulus to Americans struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The plague came in, and it’s not the people’s fault. So, we want to take care of them,” said Trump.

The president said he wants to extend the $600 weekly benefit to unemployed Americans.

-------Snip------

Jacqueline Policastro:

Do you think people on unemployment should continue to get the extra $600 each week?

President Trump:

Yeah. I want to get them. I want to get them a lot. It's not their fault. It's China's fault that this whole thing happened. We were setting records. We were doing unbelievable business. It was an incredible thing, we've never done so well. Breaking records on employment, on the stock market, although the stock market's almost what it was, which is pretty incredible in itself, but we were breaking every record you can do. And then this, the plague, I call it the plague, came in and it's not the people's fault. So we want to take care of them. Really good. Take care of them very well.

“Nothing for us who’ve been working for all of this time?“

Problem is, hardly anything ever goes down once inflation hits. It is hardly ever temporary. ‘Cept for fuel.

Much of the country seems to have come to a screeching halt and there are shortages of lots of things. I seem to buy the last of many things when I shop. Today it happened twice. Simple things, sponges and cat food of certain kinds and sizes.

Not so funny thing is that some things are moving right along like out door construction of course.

If it is china that did this, and it is, then they are the ones to pay, not us that work and save.

“ The way that is accomplished is by filling out job logs at an “American Job Center”

Job search is standard state requirement for regular unemployment. A log is required, some states require it to be updated weekly online. There’s other affirmations required as well, such as, “were you offered work? Yes/No”

Hubby was furloughed from his full time server job at age 66 because the govt decided to pick winners and losers. Believe me, he made more as a server at $60k than he ever will via unemployment. He’d love to be working again but the PTB decided his job was expendible. What are we supposed to do with exactly one day’s notice before his job was deemed unnecessary?

Negative. It is a current requirement, at least three job inquiries weekly and a plethora of other qualifiers.

You're using that tagline to make stupid people think you're a Trump supporter. Funny stuff.

Sorry, I did a broadbrush on this and realize not everyone’s situation is the same.

Not all are willing to ‘pick Schiff with the chickens’ and I understand that but this is definitely not a subject to be debated on a medium such as this as there are too many variables.

I personally would deliver pizzas or do Uber etal before drawing UE but that is me.

Sorry if I generalized too much.

Not at all. No harm, no foul.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there. Most Freepers believe we should be operating from the correct facts.

Look, I think they did the wrong thing going along with 600 back then because it allowed the Dems to delay reopening. Now look where we are.

“If that what it takes to get Trump re-elected go for it let’s not fuss around about $200 or $600 we’ve got a country at stake and overall Trump has been the most conservative the best for the economy the best for our security the best for our values overall let him do what he wants 3 months before the election go Trump”

In normal circumstances, I would want any bill with these features to be vetoed. These are, unfortunately, not normal times - and I absolutely do NOT refer to the China virus situation. I refer to the ongoing coup against the Constitution and the American people.

While it is sad that we have to rely upon a single man to save our nation (even if only for a time), save our nation we must. It is simply critical that Donald Trump win re-election in November, or else the nation will be lost. There is no one else with the strength of purpose that he has, the willingness to do whatever is necessary to stop the cabal and the loyalty that he inspires.

BTW, there is some precedent for us relying upon one man - and that prior man was no less than George Washington. No Washington, no nation - it was that simple. Now, some 244 years later, the calculus is no Trump, no nation.

Bottom line, I’m far less worried about a couple trillion (rapidly depreciating fiat) dollars than about losing the entire nation. Pay it, as little sense as that makes, if it helps gain so much as a single state for President Trump, or saves a single Senate seat.

“Just because you are a career ‘do you want fries with that’ doesn’t mean you can’t work in some sort of laborer job.”

In my retirement from engineering I have been refurbishing houses to rent. “Laborer” is a skilled profession. Just “labor” is fine for mowing a lawn. But hanging a door, fixing a sink or even painting a house is skilled labor and requires some knowledge. (And, if you just scoffed at painting being skilled, what kind of surfaces can you NOT paint?}

Those people at construction sites who need laborers need people with skills. They have a cleanup crew who comes in and does the manual no-skill stuff. Someone who had only burger flipping skills would be hard pressed to work construction. Also, construction in Florida is grueling work. It will hit in the high nineties today with close to 100% humidity. You walk outside and start sweating.

Even ACE hardware requires a heck of a lot of knowledge about a lot of subjects just to help people find stuff.

Yes, you are right, there are lots of jobs out there. But they require a desire to work, tolerance for discomfort, intelligence, and a desire to learn. These aren’t qualities the typical student learns in school. (Although, students can tell you all about white privilege.)

Service, tourism, sports and travel industry destroyed and won’t be back for years.

Tourism. Gone.
Sports. Gone.
Entertainment. Gone.
Movie Industry. Gone.
Film industry. Gone.
Outdoor recreation. Gone.
Hotels and casinos. Gone.
Fairs and Carnivals. Gone.
Meetings, Events, Conference industry. Gone.
Concert Industry. Gone.
Theater Industry. Gone.
Amusement and Theme Parks. Gone.
Cruise Industry. Gone.
Airlines. Devastated.

University towns devastated.

Except for fast-food chain restaurants, restaurants devastated.

Except for Amazon, Walmart, Target and the other big-box stores, retail devastated.

Except for mega corporation grocery store chains, groceries devastated.

Jobs are where exactly?

Being called back to work at 25% hours and wages doesn’t help either.

For you, maybe not essential, but for the 10’s of millions who were previously gainfully employed, these jobs were essential as well.

Again, since the above industries are not coming back for years, where are the jobs?

Folks, I live in Upstate NYS. Our state unemployment rate is at 15.7%. We have unskilled, minumum wage people unemployed up here who literally have no job to go back to and no hope of finding another for the foreseeable future.

And, unfortunately, Trump can’t do anything about the reason behind it, which isn’t WuFlu, it’s Cuomo.

If Trump thinks the best thing to do right now is continue the 600 bucks, I trust his judgement.

Food banks
Rent assistance
State food credits
Other programs

—————————

Except for food banks, not available in Boulder County unless you basically have less than $1600 in personal property. And social services do check. I know. I applied and was denied. They even ask if you have personal clothes you can sell. Laptops and other gadgets were also disqualifiers.

True.

And “our” media thinks this is their chance to “fix” that IMO.

Except that it WON’T help get Trump re-elected. It’s pandering at its worst. No matter what he does, the media and RATs will spin everything to make him look bad. I’m sick of the handouts that we can’t afford.

“Why would these people ever consider going back to work?”

Because it isn’t extending until the end of time?
The country needs to completely open, and many on unemployment aren’t just waiters. Many are making less money.
