President Trump wants to extend the $600 weekly benefit to unemployed Americans
Gray Washington News Bureau ^ | August 4, 2020 | Jacqueline Policastro

.THE WHITE HOUSE (Gray DC) - In a broadcast exclusive, President Donald Trump tells Gray Television Washington Bureau Chief Jacqueline Policastro he’s ready to step in to provide another stimulus to Americans struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The plague came in, and it’s not the people’s fault. So, we want to take care of them,” said Trump.

The president said he wants to extend the $600 weekly benefit to unemployed Americans.

-------Snip------

Jacqueline Policastro:

Do you think people on unemployment should continue to get the extra $600 each week?

President Trump:

Yeah. I want to get them. I want to get them a lot. It's not their fault. It's China's fault that this whole thing happened. We were setting records. We were doing unbelievable business. It was an incredible thing, we've never done so well. Breaking records on employment, on the stock market, although the stock market's almost what it was, which is pretty incredible in itself, but we were breaking every record you can do. And then this, the plague, I call it the plague, came in and it's not the people's fault. So we want to take care of them. Really good. Take care of them very well.

Business owners have been put out of business by the state and are due compensation.

But that isn’t the people sitting on a couch refusing to return to their jobs because they earn $15/hour minimum wage now for doing nothing but protest and binge netflix.

<What extra expenses are the unemployed getting that we don’t?

THIS

Food banks
Rent assistance
State food credits
Other programs

And their BASE is $15/hour. Are these $600 checks in addition to their normal unemployment?

Why not add that to Social Security recipients?

We don’t run a permanent philanthropy in this country. The 600 bucks is too lush. It gives many people more than they ever made working. We are printing money now making the money people earn and have saved worth less each day. This has to stop.

The average age of peoplw ho die from this crap is 78. It is safe to go back to work for most.

Trump is spending more money that we don’t have.

What about an extra 600 a week for those of us who have kept working?

Good point!

ONLY if they have to PROVE they are looking for a job.

The way that is accomplished is by filling out job logs at an "American Job Center". Those are never, ever followed up on....can't be really. How are government employees supposed to call every Home Depot and WalMart and find out "did John Doe apply there"?

Means jobs aren’t there.
And/or demand down %.

Lifting up our heads.

Have not heard him say for how long, and he doesn’t here.

I heard him say he wants to extend it one week, and has R Senate support for that.

It6’s got to be reduced.
I’d like to see it cut to 500/wk now, and quickly to much less as the outbreak falls in August.
May be a good idea to balance it with a back-to-work bonus.

Correct. And thus those of us that are working will spend less as the prices remain high (devaluation).

Due to the morals and financial practices of a large part of the electorate that is perpetually short on savings due to the "good life", as well as a permanent class of entitlement leeches and a government run by control freaks that vacuums cash for taxes on everything except air while stepping all over business; there is no room for Trump or any fiscally conservative candidate for president to maneuver. When it comes to the current predicament it's Hobson's choice as to massive coronavirus relief payments.

American financial culture has broken down, again; and it seems we have no choice other than to wait until we hit the skids, à la 1929. Then we will either get serious about fixing things or go into the totalitarian abyss.

Had thought at 600 vs. 200 they would compromise at 400.
Treasury Sec. also doesn’t want disincentive to working.
Conclusion: job situation dire

“small businessmen that are having trouble hiring people.”

True, OTOH the money goes to their consumers to spend at their businesses. And to landlords, etc to spend there.

Does seem like it would be better to give all, not just the categorically unemployed, money to spend. What a crazy situation.

Lumber prices are up 50% because so many people are at home with nothing to do and money to burn so they buy lumber for projects. Add to that there are not enough people working to produce the timber products taht are being bought. Supply and demand gone out of control.

I had two large projects planned but both are on hold for now. Not hiring anyone now.

Yeah, I thought they’d quickly compromise at about 400.

“Conclusion: job situation dire”
Very well could be. Though more about the speed of return of hiring than the numbers.

“ ONLY if they have to PROVE they are looking for a job.”

It’s a standard requirement to look for work. Usually you are require to keep a log listing several inquires per week. Also if you were employed and you have been called back you must return.

Might have bought more roofing supplies if the prices had dropped. Prices on tires still high.

Yes, that is the way it USED to be.

That was then, this was now.

I am sure you must have noticed all the HELP WANTED signs that have been springing up.

At 80 have yet to apply for or draw unemployment, food stamps, welfare, housing assistance, Obamascare etc etc etc

I do draw SS but have been ‘contributing’ since 1953 and am still working daily.
