Can We Stomach a Second Shutdown?

In a recent coalition letter to “decision makers,” 150 health experts call for a second lockdown.

Certainly this letter is well-intentioned, with its authors citing the awful prospect of losing a projected “200,000 American lives by November 1st” as motivation for penning the message. Healthcare professionals are nobly bound to the hippocratic oath. But realistically, the idea of shutting America down again is impractical and insulting, especially to those who have complied with the first nationwide lockdown.

Is that 200,000 lives part of the 2,000,000 total deaths or in addition?

Somehow, someway - all this hysteria will magically disappear on November 4.

Let’s be really clear about this: The riots are because of the lockdown. And businesses are still failing. First the weak ones failed, then the less weak, etc. But make no mistake: Even if everything went back to business as usual starting today, the other side of the storm is still coming. It is the economic side. And it will make the Great Depression look like a dry run.

I’m preparing my property for my urban family members to be able to live here next year - just in case.

We’re not doing another shutdown. The American people have moved on. That short attention span just can’t do a news story this long. My company is reopening the office. Because the country infection rate has dropped for 2 weeks solid. Mind you the state is still having over 1000 positive tests a day, and there were like 50 in the whole freaking state when we shut down. But hey, down for 2 weeks, reopen.

I’m staying home though. Not because of the virus. Because playoff hockey starts at 9AM. Forget the office until we’re in at least the 3rd round.

To truly stop this thing and prevent any more cases, you would have to lock everyone In their houses for eight weeks. No trips to the doctor, hospital, grocery, pharmacy, etc. no one goes anywhere. Period.

Since this is not possible, just open everything up and get it over with.

"...150 health experts..." should read "150 health experts who receive their pay no matter what". So...why do they give a crap what the effects on the economy as so forth are?

Yes. I can see CV19 lockdowns ending. Being replaced with lockdowns due to widespread rioting, looting and violence by Antifa/BLM terrorists.

Let's see....200,000 people versus 300,000,000 plus people.

Vaporizing the economy and destroying life for 300,000,000 plus people versus saving 200,000 people.

Could one of those who may die be someone I am close to? Considering that NO ONE escapes dying, and you WILL lose people close to you no matter what you do, to me that is an acceptable loss.

Yeah, I admit...it sucks, and it seems pretty cruel. I get that. But is it worth it to destroy the economy more than it has been torn up to save seven ten-thousandth of a percent...or less... of the population?

To me, the answer is pretty clear.
