Trump officially suggests delaying the election
Twitter ^ | 07/30/20 | Donald Trump

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???

I agree with your post on all counts. But some folks here believe that every last thing Trump does is part of some clever master plan. I respect those folks, and I respect their opinions. Trump is truly the last hope for the Republic. But I don’t think he is infallible.

Anyway, you are bound to receive some incoming fire. Grab your helmet and take cover.

The date for the election is set by statute, not the Constitution. The only “Constitutional” limitation is that both Houses of Congress would need to pass it first.

You is funny.
This is a perfect tweet, that sets off the perfect firestorm.
If you trust this president to be working for America, to MAGA, you don’t need to try and micro manage. You will fail because you don’t have all the facts, don’t know the strategy and don’t have his deal making finesse. There is NO ONE that I would trust with the power to manage his tweets, that oft suggested “adult” wasn’t elected & would be a Mitt Romney type.
DJT uses chaos & misdirection to move the ball down the court. Sorry if it offends or worries people but it’s the only game in town.
The frontal approach of total orthodoxy & telegraphing all moves was shown to be a failure in the Am Revolution where the Brits employed it.
If you are a logical linear thinker it goes against the grain, gets up your nose but it opens up the board and breaks up the logjams by turning the enemies positions upside down. DJT moves the ball while they are regrouping.

From which Twitter account? @POTUS is his official White House account. @RealDonaldTrump is his personal account he’s had since 2009. The election tweet came on the latter.”

Excellent points !!!

“Flagrantly unconstitutional” you say? You have no idea what you are talking about.

Since when is suggesting that Congress might postpone the election unconstitutional?

We see it as trolling but the problem is too many people don’t see it as that and they just think Trump is dumb for suggesting it. A good joke is not really good if hardly anybody “get’s it”. Too many of the president’s Trolling tweets are not taking into account the general public’s perceptions and that is part of the reason his support from the middle is deteriorating.

I’ve lost track of the number of Trump supporters who say, they love Trump but hate his tweets

Lol...welcome to Free Republic. We see you.

With this tweet I think the end result is to push the Left off of trying to milk COVID panic. They have been overstating numbers & risk to try and push for all mail voting.
By raising the specter of delaying the elections he is making them realize that there is a down side risk to the game they are playing. They are delaying opening schools & commerce by using bad data or no data and he wants that to stop.

I asked the question because honestly I don’t know.
If DOJ is saying that Trump’s personal tweets are official US Government communication that is sort of ground-breaking.

Hell yes. That doesn’t delay the time of taking office, but simply gives things time to settle down so people can get to the polls physically to vote.

A lot of these lockdowns and even masking requirements are to keep people isolated and from getting out to vote.

Exactly. This wouldn’t delay the taking office, but simply the voting.

Well, yes. But not every firestorm is a productive one. Consider this. We all know that Nancy Pelosi is bad for this country. So suppose Trump tweeted something provocative like “Should I send in the US marshals to arrest Pelosi?”

That surely would set off a firestorm. And it would wake up some swing voters to just how bad Pelosi is. But I think many more swing voters would be deeply disturbed by that tweet.

I put this Election Day tweet in the same category as that hypothetical Arrest Pelosi tweet.

POTUS is not trolling to be admired nor is he thinking everyone will figure it out although there have been enough examples of “outrageous” tweets having the desired effects a little while after they are tweeted.
POTUS can’t spell out his methods or the Lefties wouldn’t react as planned. In the end people will have to judge on results not on whether they were irritated by a particular tweet. I may say that POTUS doesn’t mind when leftists think he is dumb; it makes them easier to manipulate.

Why would they stop milking something that they're using to their benefit so far?

By raising the specter of delaying the elections he is making them realize that there is a down side risk to the game they are playing.

What is threatening about Trump raising the specter of something he has no control over to begin with.

Congress can delay an election in a national crisis. Or they can delegate that to the Executive branch. However, hard dates have to be given.

Check this article out for more information.
