Hurricane Isaias
NOAA/NHC ^ | 29 July 2020 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 07/29/2020 7:48:51 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Tropical Storm Isaias developed in the Eastern Caribbean Sea. All interests along the Florida Peninsula should be prepared for deteriorating weather conditions by Saturday.

For linguistics aficionados, the National Hurricane Center uses the four-syllable pronunciation ees-ah-EE-ahs. The name Isaias is Spanish for Isaiah. To hear a meteorologist pronounce Isaias: NWS Melbourne.

Only thing is that with a hurricane I know what to expect as far as duration of the emergency goes having been through hurricane Hugo. With the useless gov’t ruining things now no telling how long whatever shutdown that tickles their fancy will last.

Hang tight with this one. Very large wind field, with a center of circulation that has already brought surprises. Stay tuned.

Godzilla :" My advice is to avoid evacuation centers like the plague (literally).
Get on the phone now and contact friends/relatives in safe zones and coordinate with them.
Book hotel/motel reservations in safe zones, or find a non-red cross dominated church organized center.
You go to those centers, you lose most of your rights and you are at their whim."

"Book hotel/motel reservations in safe zones, or find a non-red cross dominated church organized center."( Emphasis mine).
I think that there is a lesson that was learned about going to a FEMA Center,
during "Hurricane Katrina" and living in the Houston Dome Arena.
Good call about contacting known family resources!
And ask them what you should bring; you will find them much more accommodating if you are contributing to the groups success.
But show up with masks and sanitizer anyway, as you will probably need them in order to go into any store or hotel after the crisis passes.

If anyone is interested in my experience in being in a shelter.

Always pack a quality flat sheet and a pillow case in a Ziploc bag. Mine is king sized. It takes up almost no room in your BOB and you will be much more comfortable.

The sheet will keep you much warmer then just a blanket, it will be softer and the bag will make sure it is dry. It also works as a screen for getting dressed and undressed. The bag can be slightly inflated, put inside the pillow case and used as either a cushion or pillow.

That would have impacted the Republican Convention if it was still in Jacksonville.

Hiya blam! We're deflecting storms from your neighborhood for now.

Eerily, the 2020 hurricane season is reminiscent of 2005 when we went six names into the greek alphabet. 2005 was famous for Katrina, Rita, and Wilma, to name just a few. Yikes.

My uncle discards the blanket entirely and just includes a second sheet.

For your blanket I suggest going with a light back packing quilt. They are warm enough. You are not going to be in below freezing temps in a shelter. In fact your worry might be being too warm. That is where the sheet comes in handy.
