Hurricane Isaias
NOAA/NHC ^ | 29 July 2020 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 07/29/2020 7:48:51 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Tropical Storm Isaias developed in the Eastern Caribbean Sea. All interests along the Florida Peninsula should be prepared for deteriorating weather conditions by Saturday.

For linguistics aficionados, the National Hurricane Center uses the four-syllable pronunciation ees-ah-EE-ahs. The name Isaias is Spanish for Isaiah. To hear a meteorologist pronounce Isaias: NWS Melbourne.

Oops, after laughing at others for not pronouncing Isaias correctly, I didn't correctly spell Isaias phonetically in my post #396!

Should have been: ees-ah-EE-ahs.

Go away, Isaias!

Near the I91 corridor, it is hit or miss you can drive for a mile and see very little damage (small branches/twigs ndown), then a few miles huge trees and branches down, then back to very little.

Police still have the road closed where a tree took out one of the lines, no sign of Eversource yet, however it’s not too bad now and a fan is doing the trick for now.

I haven’t heard about a drought. It was a bit on the dry side a few weeks ago, but since then we’ve managed to get enough rain.

It HAS been stinking hot and this week will be no exception.

My tomatoes are loving it though.

>>>The hyperventilating by so many over a nonevent is Laughable. And, PATHETIC.

At least 5 dead, a record number without power (at least 3.5 million), record surge into Wilmington, NC - beating the surge by Hurricane Florence - and this is just the start.

Being a professional meteorologist for 32 years - I knew your comment was going to come back to haunt you - but I am also a patient man - so I was going to wait to rub your ignorant little nose in it.

Maybe next time you will remember a few things: 1) The world doesn't revolve around you and Florida - there are other places - like the Bahamas and the Carolinas and New England that might like to have a thread to talk about these types of systems; 2) Keep your mouth closed about stuff you don't know about - because ignorance is bliss (and so is stupidity) and 3) If you don't want to talk about it - MOVE THE FRAK ON.

Why people on FR feel the need to insert their worthless opinions on threads they think should not exist is beyond me.

So - take some advice: Better to be thought a fool - than type it out and remove our doubt. IOW - next time - remain silent.

Thanks again for your posts.

Power here is not expected to be back on until sometime 8/11.

Everyone has generators...we don't care

A cacophony of generators. I've said that one of the sweetest songs includes chainsaws the morning after a nasty hurricane. Hoping you get your electricity restored very soon.

If each storm took an easterly track after landfall there is going to be one heck of a potential for some serious inland flooding. Especially if they both cross over the blue ridge. We have had two weeks of daily rainfall and the ground is saturated.

Looks like TS Laura and TD 14 are going to be in the gulf at the same time next week and both are predicted to be hurricanes. That will be interesting

Can you add me to your ping list.

I need to pay attention to this now that I'm living near the Texas coast.

Hi Nauti. Looking forward to the new dual cane thread. As much as I love you, I sure don’t like when we have to talk about this. Thank you for what you do.
