A college professor who had been slammed by his own university for "vile" and "hateful" statements was found dead inside his North Carolina home on Thursday.
"It is with sadness that we share the news that the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation involving Dr. Mike Adams, professor of criminology," University of North Carolina Wilmington said in a statement.
Adams, who taught sociology and criminology at the school, was a lightning rod due to his racist and sexist tweets and other commentary, including about Muslims, gays and efforts to fight the coronavirus.
The university announced June 29 that Adams had decided to retire Aug. 1.
Adams had a long history of comments about women, minorities and others that led the university on June 5 to call out his "hateful," "distasteful" and "vile" language. That was followed weeks later by his retirement announcement.
Among the professor's recent statements was his comparing the efforts of North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper to curb coronavirus to that of a slave master, tweeting on May 29: "This evening I ate pizza and drank beer with six guys at a six seat table top. I almost felt like a free man who was not living in the slave state of North Carolina. Massa Cooper, let my people go!"
Earlier this year, Adams mocked women's studies as "non essential" and labeled civil rights protesters "thugs."
In 2013, he said gay couples should not receive equal treatment "because they do not equally benefit society."

Another assassination
I hadn’t caught this in the first postings on the weekend. Last night on Tucker he mentioned that Adams had ‘apparently’ committed suicide with a gun.
I REALLY doubt this. There was ZERO tone of ‘giving up on the world’ - quite the opposite. This strong Christian would NOT have said ‘God - you failed me’. Not how he rolled.
I agree that such a Christian would not consider suicide. There are lots of red flags in this case beginning with the reported 911 call.
Mike Adams spoke the truth, and TRUTH is the new HATE SPEECH.
It does not sound like the actions of a man who was totally awake. Look forward to meeting him in the upcoming rapture.
I think the circumstances of his death are suspicious.
I have a long history of conservative Christian position on issues the communist, sexually deviant, ideologically possessed, racist left find vile and hateful.
I just retired. I’m rediscovering old hobbies and avocations I’ve not had time for while pursuing my professional aspirations. Suicide is the last thing on my mind. If anything I’m looking NOT to waste the precious time I have remaining.
I’m not in a position where my views would have pissed off many co-workers and/or students who would desire my death (leftist university). I suspect he was murdered.
