Ridership’s down, revenues are down, but salaries are up for BART workers

BART’s ridership is only 12% of what it was before the coronavirus pandemic and it’s facing a projected loss of $975 million over the next three years — nonetheless, the transit agency’s workers got a 2.75% raise July 1, bringing the top salary for station agents and train operators to $93,085.20 a year, plus benefits.

“It was clear from the beginning of the budget process that staff and a board majority was committed to maintaining status quo,” BART board Director Debora Allen said. “That meant no layoffs, furloughs or pay cuts.”

Cute.

Ridership is down 90%.

WTF are they doing to earn their paychecks?

I have to produce a result every month but, these grifters get a free ride?

Yup. Standard procedure for liberals.
You’re doing less?
Here, take more.
You know, following CW-II, the guillotine really will not be what these folks deserve. We’ll need something that’s much more painful.

BART isn’t the only transit system handing out raises as ridership craters.

Drivers for the much smaller Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, which runs commuter buses between San Francisco and the North Bay will get a 3.5% pay increase in September, bringing their pay to between $80,000 and $85,000 a year.

District buses are running at about 20% capacity.

OMG, Grifters unite everywhere and enrich themselves at taxpayer expense.

You are not going to increase ridership anytime soon.

Not in the next six months, not in the next year and here is an example of the timeline:

BOOM!!!

here is your minimum timeline for this:

San Francisco Relaxes Restrictions on Gay Bathhouses So They Can Contribute to the Economic Recovery
https://www.metroweekly.com/2020/07/san-francisco-supervisors-to-ease-restrictions-that-would-allow-bathhouses-to-return-to-the-city/

2/3rds of the page down in the article:
Mandelman stresses that the ordinance does not require or allow the reopening of adult sex venues until restrictions requiring social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic have been lifted.

“Bathhouses are not going to open during the height of the pandemic and nobody’s going to expect them to. The legislation gives the Department of Public Health until January to come up with regulations to allow this,” he says.

“And I can’t imagine a universe in which we’re ready to open bathhouses by January. I cannot imagine that a bathhouse is going to be able to open until we are at the end of this pandemic.”

Mandelman adds: “But, I do think that as we approach the end of this thing that, you know, there will be economic devastation all around. We will be building a new world and there are opportunities to do things that haven’t been done, and things that haven’t been done in a long time.

No shit...

who is surprised by this?

In our state, teachers unions, who aren’t teaching, are demanding a retroactive raise on an expired collective bargaining agreement for the new school year

Just waiting for someone to say a $93K salary doesn’t go very far in San Francisco.
