Illinois State University’s first attempt to articulate its vision for reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic this fall didn’t sit well with everyone.
The plan, dubbed “Redbirds Return” after the central Illinois college’s mascot, drew swift criticism from faculty after it was shared in early June, prompting instructors to draft their own proposals and call for greater precautions when scores of students are expected to descend on campus next month. The faculty’s letter objecting to plan has been signed by more than 500 employees, students, parents and other community members.

They got their marching orders from the teachers union to continue the fear porn.
Fine. Lay the professors all off and shut off any Federal funding.
These “academics” are once again proving how stupid they are.
Keep telling people that you and your government/union institutions can’t teach, and people will simply go on-line to one of hundreds of options, and cut you out completely. You will have made yourself obsolete, and there will be nothing you can do to get it back.
No classes = no paychecks. A simple solution.

These same A-Holes would wine if their grocery stores shut down. The “little” people that work there don’t count.
My thoughts exactly.
I believe that if there’s one thing that the whole “social justice warrior” concept has proven is that given the last of any coherent civics classes, it’s about time that every “Ivy League” university needs to be shut-down.

I am teaching all my courses in a classroom setting this fall. Quizzes and exams will be given in class-students will use their laptops to complete the assignments. All announcements, course outlines etc will be on-line. We have a shortened semester so some lectures will be on video, but our students are paying good money-the least I can do is be there. My classrooms will be larger-safe distance and all.
I don’t plan to wear a mask but if necessary a face shield.
The issue is not that people can get learning elsewhere -- the issue is that "accredited" colleges enjoy a monopoly on issuing degrees, which are currently made requirements by employers.
Allow employers to administer tests for literacy, and not get sued if fewer blacks than whites pass, and colleges get shut down.
