Nike should quit lecturing on social justice — and atone for using slave labor in China
New York Post ^ | July 25, 2020 | Steven W. Mosher

Woke companies are constantly hectoring America on its failings.

The Social Justice Warriors who run Nike, for example, pompously inform us that they are fighting “against discrimination in communities worldwide.” Not only that but they are “work[ing] every day to erase the stain of racism and the damage of injustice.”

Really, Nike? Then why do you have your shoes made by an oppressive, morally bankrupt regime? China is the ugly poster child, the living exemplar, for all of the evils that you are so quick to condemn America for.

Right now, at this very moment, the Chinese Communists are eliminating the Uyghurs, a Turkish-speaking people who live in China’s Far West, from the face of the earth.

They’ve locked up over a million Uyghur men in concentration camps, aborted and sterilized hundreds of thousands of the women, and are busy selling the young — in batches of 100, no less — to Chinese factory owners as slave labor.

Secret drone footage has revealed some of the brutality of this campaign. It shows hundreds of Uyghur men, handcuffed, blindfolded and heads shaved, being herded onto a train bound for a secret camp.

But it’s even worse for Nike, the wokest of woke companies.

It turns out that some of these Uyghurs have been slaving away making basketball shoes with the famous swoosh on them.

An Australian Strategic Policy Institute report published this March, “Uyghurs for sale,” found Uyghur slave labor working in factories supplying 83 well-known global brands in the technology, clothing, shoe and automotive sectors, including Apple, GM, Gap — and Nike.

Since Nike benefited from slave labor in the recent past, can we demand that the company be dissolved and the proceeds be given out in reparations?

This research report draws on open-source Chinese-language documents, satellite imagery analysis, academic research and on-the-ground media reporting. It analyses the politics and policies behind the new phase of the Chinese government’s ongoing repression of Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities. It provides evidence of the exploitation of Uyghur labour and the involvement of foreign and Chinese companies, possibly unknowingly, in human rights abuses.

In all, ASPI’s research has identified 83 foreign and Chinese companies directly or indirectly benefiting from the use of Uyghur workers outside Xinjiang through potentially abusive labour transfer programs as recently as 2019: Abercrombie & Fitch, Acer, Adidas, Alstom, Amazon, Apple, ASUS, BAIC Motor, BMW, Bombardier, Bosch, BYD, Calvin Klein, Candy, Carter’s, Cerruti 1881, Changan Automobile, Cisco, CRRC, Dell, Electrolux, Fila, Founder Group, GAC Group (automobiles), Gap, Geely Auto, General Motors, Google, Goertek, H&M, Haier, Hart Schaffner Marx, Hisense, Hitachi, HP, HTC, Huawei, iFlyTek, Jack & Jones, Jaguar, Japan Display Inc., L.L.Bean, Lacoste, Land Rover, Lenovo, LG, Li-Ning, Mayor, Meizu, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Microsoft, Mitsubishi, Mitsumi, Nike, Nintendo, Nokia, The North Face, Oculus, Oppo, Panasonic, Polo Ralph Lauren, Puma, Roewe, SAIC Motor, Samsung, SGMW, Sharp, Siemens, Skechers, Sony, TDK, Tommy Hilfiger, Toshiba, Tsinghua Tongfang, Uniqlo, Victoria’s Secret, Vivo, Volkswagen, Xiaomi, Zara, Zegna, ZTE. Some brands are linked with multiple factories.

The data is based on published supplier lists, media reports, and the factories’ claimed suppliers. ASPI reached out to these 83 brands to confirm their relevant supplier details. Where companies responded before publication, we have included their relevant clarifications in this report. If any company responses are made available after publication of the report, we will address these online.

ASPI notes that a small number of brands advised they have instructed their vendors to terminate their relationships with these suppliers in 2020. Others, including Adidas, Bosch and Panasonic, said they had no direct contractual relationships with the suppliers implicated in the labour schemes, but no brands were able to rule out a link further down their supply chain.

Before US corporations began to export manufacturing to China the CCP was just another crackpot socialist cult on the way to mass starvation and extinction. It was the corporate Wall Street visionaries that saw the potential for using a totalitarian government to supply slave labor and produce their goods with margins they could never dream of before.

China’s CCP didn’t rise, leaders like Biden propped them up with capital investments from Western banks and corporate powers at the expense of the American middle class manufacturing jobs and the freedom of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and lao baixing Chinese people.

Trump and Pompeo are finally calling them out and the Democrats and media are using every trick in the book to protect their cozy relationship with their CCP partners.

Has Apple and Nike along with the other 80 companies complied with California Law?? Did they Notify California that their Products were made with SLAVE LABOR??
Is it Posted on their Products as Required???
Why Hasn’t Becerra Prosecuted them??

https://oag.ca.gov/SB657

In passing the Transparency in Supply Chains Act, the Legislature declared the intent of the State of California to ensure that large retailers and manufacturers provide consumers with information regarding their efforts to eradicate slavery and human trafficking from their supply chains, educate consumers on how to purchase goods produced by companies that responsibly manage their supply chains, and, thereby, improve the lives of victims of slavery and human trafficking. (S.B. 657, § 2, subd. (j).)

In order to provide consumers with this critical information and to allow consumers to make more educated purchasing decisions, the Legislature mandated the posting of information by certain companies. A company must meet certain criteria to be subject to the law. It must: (a) identify itself as a retail seller or manufacture in its tax returns; (b) satisfy the legal requirements for “doing business” in California; and (c) have annual worldwide gross receipts exceeding $100,000,000. The law requires companies subject to the law to disclose information regarding their efforts to eradicate human trafficking and slavery within their supply chains on their website or, if a company does not have a website, through written disclosures.

Lovely article about one of American’s most hypocritical and phony companies. Imagine the profits they make by charging the highest prices for their shoes which are made at low cost by the use of slave labor.
