Judge Orders Michael Cohen Released From Prison After Dispute Over Trump Comments
NBC New York ^ | July 23, 2020 | Larry Neumeister

BREAKING: A federal judge has ordered Michael Cohen, former attorney to President Trump, released from prison, agreeing with Cohen's lawyers that he was wrongly taken back into custody for criticizing the president.

Cohen, who was serving a federal fraud sentence, was released on home confinement as prisons were emptied to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A week after tweeting that he was finishing a tell-all book about Trump, a probation officer told him he would have to agree to a complete ban on speaking in public, including by publishing a book, as a condition of continued home confinement, according to court documents.

He was asked to sign a form that included this provision: "No engagement of any kind with the media, including print, tv, film, books, or any other form of media/news. Prohibition from all social media platforms."

The form said it was intended "to avoid glamorizing or bringing publicity to your status as a sentenced inmate serving a custodial term in the community."

"I've never seen such a clause in 21 years of being a judge and sentencing people," Judge Alvin Hellerstein said during a hearing Thursday. "How can I take any other inference but that it was retaliatory?"

He was taken back into prison because he was out in a restaurant.

I thought he was taken back because he was eating out in a restaurant?

I NEVER heard anything about making anti-Trump comments as the reason.

Of course pro-Trump comments were good enough to put Stone behind bars.

Justice depending on who’s side you’re on.

We’re in a new America. Two Americas actually.

I thought he was taken back because he went out to dinner, which supposedly was not allowed.

IIRC he wasn’t allowed to go more than “X” feet of his home.

Their side has judges who take on the role of Prosecutor (Flynn case).
And now they have Judges who free prisoners “just because”.

That’s what I recall. Guess we must be wrong. Obviously if we think he should stay in jail for busting house arrest, we must be Trump supporters. Plus we don’t wear masks 24/7.

What part of “house arrest” didn’t he understand?

I don’t know what the conditions were for his release, but I remember seeing articles that Michael Cohen was spotted in a restaurant and for that might be returning to jail. But then I only read it in passing as it wasn’t really of much interest to me. Now if he had killed himself in prison, I probably would have read the entire article. 8>)

Will the rotten little twerp traitor have lunch with Bolton, George Will and Mary Trump and pick up the check?

Have to put an eavesdropping mic in the flower vase and record that conversation. Then on to the NY Daily News front page.

Apparently he objected to a requirement that any employment be approved in advance by the Bureau of Prisons and the Probation Office, prosecutors said....... also said he objected to a requirement that he not contact convicted felons and that he refrain from grocery shopping.... They said his attorney also objected to Cohen being placed on electronic monitoring.

IIRC he was required to stay within a certain radius of his home. And yes,the NY Post published a photo of him dining at a well known Upper East Side restaurant.Soon after that photo was published he was called into a Federal courthouse and taken back to prison. His visit to that restaurant either did,or did not, violate the conditions of his release.

My money's on "it did".

And now a BillyBob appointee sets him free.

He needs to call Judge Amy Berman to learn how its done.
