It was a lark, really. Rhetorical misdirection. I had no agenda other than being cheeky, and hoping someone would think I was funny. So imagine my surprise when I wound up with a blueprint for how we all can most constructively engage social media when interacting with those who hold different views than we do.

So, does all of this add up to enough ticks for me to give Hamilton a shot?

Aaron Burr did.................

I saw it in San Francisco. My daughter won $10 lottery tickets to it, and she invited me.

I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it. I don’t like rap music, and I had a hard time even understanding it.

It’s very, very fast paced. It gave me a headache.

What Not Liking Hamilton Taught Me About Arguing on Social Media

If he had never seen "Hamilton" and never had any plans to then how could he say he didn't like it?

Liking Hamilton is about subjective impressions; the weightier matters are about objective reality.

Ditto - respondents dealt in flights of fantasy in order to give the appearance of being engaged in informed repartee when the reality was mere virtue signaling with occasional whiffs of “wokeness.”

LOL!!!! That's what I love about this site!

As for the musical...I still don't give a shit. Have a friend who has been trying to get me to see it. No thanks.

3. Don’t make everything exclusively about partisanship.

Sadly, that is EXACTLY what the cast of “Hamilton” did when it literally stopped the show, just so the actors could lecture V. P. Mike Pence about their left wing views.

Consequent to that rudeness, Hamilton is a no-go forever, afaic.

How could he say “not liking it”.
____________

I like the way you think.

I interpreted this headline in a social media sense. To “like” means to symbolically click the “like button” and in any other way to join in the social media enthusiasm. True he couldn’t dislike the show, he never saw it, but he had no interest in ever seeing it or “liking” it in any way. This is “not liking” it. Now he has determined to see it and he may still not like it and he may also geuinely dislike it.

I don’t know if I am right about this and I would never ever ever say how the language ought to be used, I merely observe and report. However, it is truly frightening that in the modern age, among the young people, one can be castigated for not sufficiently “liking” some politically correct idea!

All history should be redone in musical rap history. It’s the only way to assure world peace.../s

Alexander Hamilton was a white guy and there was no rap or hip hop (whatever the current name is) music back then. So the musical is cultural appropriation of an historical figure. Speaking of Hamilton, when will we see the cancel culture pulling down his statues?

My wife started it and said she couldn’t understand what they were singing. I’ll take her word for it.

Reminds me of a Jamaican film I saw decades ago. With the thick accent they added subtitles to what was an english language movie at least in name. :)
