Black America: Before Y'all Sign On to BLM...
American Thinker.com ^ | July 9, 2020 | Lloyd Marcus

During the opening monologue of his show, Arsenio Hall included a running gag titled, “Things that make you say hmmm.” To my fellow blacks, here are things that should make you say “hmmm” about Black Lives Matter.

BLM's mission statement says they want to destroy the nuclear family. Rejecting BLM's war on the family, black former NFL star Marcellus Wiley offered these stats. “Children from single-parent homes verses two-parent homes. Children from single-parent homes are 5 times more likely to commit suicide -- 6 times more likely to be in poverty -- 9 times more likely to drop out of school – 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances – 14 times more likely to commit rape – 20 times more likely to end up in prison and 32 times more likely to run away from home.”

BLM's founders admit they are “trained Marxists.” These disciples of Karl Marx have launched a revolution against capitalism to implement socialism which will morph into communism. Communism means elites dictate every aspect of your life. They sucker you in by promising everything for free. Their promise always falls short because someone has to work to produce goods and services. When government confiscates the majority of what you earn to redistribute equally to people who do nothing, human nature asks why should you bust your butt? Communist dictators live high on the hog while the people live on the crumbs that fall from their table. Do you see anything related to George Floyd or empowering blacks in BLM's Marxist agenda?

Bottom line... pleading ignorance is no longer a defense.

We have blamed the NEA for so long... but it’s about time to just blame stupid people.

By now everyone on earth has access to the internet... So if you didn’t get the facts in your ‘school’, you still had an opportunity to check it out on line. NO ONE will stop you.

I wonder if these stats are correct? I don't think they are.

If so, it's a strong point in favor of the importance of strong marriages.

I'll do some checking later. But, I recall reading different stats in Charles Murray's excellent book, "Coming Apart".

Probably very conservative estimates - consider what it is like to live in the urban ghettos. If you’ve ever been in one, you’d know how horrible the trap is. Stop with the books and just drive through one - real world as opposed to academia

It’s been a while since I looked up the numbers so I can’t speak to the exact numbers, but yeah, when you look at the proportion of the problems in the black communities, somewhere close to 90% or so of it is accounted for by parents not being married.

https://townhall.com/columnists/walterewilliams/2005/05/11/how-not-to-be-poor-n1002276

“Avoiding long-term poverty is not rocket science. First, graduate from high school. Second, get married before you have children, and stay married. Third, work at any kind of job, even one that starts out paying the minimum wage. And, finally, avoid engaging in criminal behavior. “

” The Children’s Defense Fund and civil rights organizations frequently whine about the number of black children living in poverty. In 1999, the Bureau of the Census reported that 33.1 percent of black children lived in poverty compared with 13.5 percent of white children. It turns out that race per se has little to do with the difference. Instead, it’s welfare and single parenthood. When black children are compared to white children living in identical circumstances, mainly in a two-parent household, both children will have the same probability of being poor.”

https://www.creators.com/read/walter-williams/02/14/dependency-not-poverty

“The Census Bureau pegs the poverty rate among blacks at 35 percent and among whites at 13 percent. The illegitimacy rate among blacks is 72 percent, and among whites it’s 30 percent. A statistic that one doesn’t hear much about is that the poverty rate among black married families has been in the single digits for more than two decades, currently at 8 percent. For married white families, it’s 5 percent.”

single-parent homes verses two-parent homes

Everyone is doing this these days. I wonder if it's an auto-fill on their devices.

I live in Louisville, and my office is NOT in the good part of town. I can see a decrepit government housing project from my window. I see the cop cars going there virtually every day. I get how destructive the lifestyle is for the people living it.

I can believe these stats are accurate for black children living in such circumstances. But, the quote didn't specify whether these numbers were true for ALL children? Or, just specific to black children? Or, black children living in ghettos.

Apparently, these stats are coming from here:

http://endparentalalienation.weebly.com/uploads/1/1/2/2/11226479/statistics_on_fatherless_homes.pdf

and

http://www.fathersrightsdallas.com/tag/national-principals-association-report-on-the-state-of-high-schools/

Some attributing is provided. Not sure I can confirm the way they are doing their mathematics, but... clearly, the underlying numbers are substantive.

Statistics can be made to show absolutely anything the compiler wishes. Statistics lie. Such numbers are often compiled by social workers and their agencies both of which have agendas. Believe them at your peril.

True. But, data is important when trying to persuade people or policy makers. It’s not enough to just say: “It’s terrible for kids when their parents separate”. It helps to be able t show HOW it is terrible for them, and for society. And, much is it costing us?

This said, as you suggest, I view all statistics with a healthy amount of skepticism.
