Investigative Journalist: Here's How Blue States Implemented a ‘De Facto’ Gun Ban on New Residents

....in blue states, it should come to no one's surprise that hordes of people are left defenseless. Some might have known about their respective states' anti-gun regime, especially in California and New Jersey, but a lot of folks found out the hard way when they tried to purchase a firearm in the past few weeks. Stephen Gutowski of the Washington Free Beacon has been on this beat, noting that some California residents have been shocked at how stringent their state's gun laws have become, even mulling running for office to change them. For his latest, he wrote about a US Marine Corps reservist and an investigative journalist, both live in the Golden and Garden States respectively, and noted how they've been left defenseless. The journalist, Jose Pagliery, went so far as to declare that these states have a "de facto" gun ban on new residents (via Free Beacon) [emphasis mine]:

I’ll save people the click and say that the story reveals that it’s actually the fact that the state offices which issue Driver’s Licenses are closed due to Corona which is causing the issue.

Oh, let them click. LOL! Buying self defense items is apparently NOT essential.

Pagliery said New Jersey will not allow him to buy a gun without a valid photo ID issued by the state. And since he's still unable to attain one after more than a month of trying, he is effectively barred from buying guns in the state despite his clean record.

He shouldn't feel bad. I'm a lifelong NJ resident with spotless record (well, couple of speeding tickets) and in the first town I tried to get a firearm permit I was told that Officer X was the only one who processed the paperwork but it was his day off. Please come back another day. But it always turned out to be his day off, or he was out to lunch, or he had a recent death in the family, or ... I eventually got the point.

When I moved to another town they actually would process my paperwork but the rules were draconian. I needed notarized letters from three non-family individuals who would lay out how they knew me and for how long and swear that I was stable and not a danger. And like I said, they had to seal them and get them notarized, I couldn't do it for them. I had one person refuse because guns (it's NJ after all) and one who just said they didn't have time to deal with all that. But eventually I did get them.

When I turned it all in the women who took the material from me said 'you only checked the box for long barrel firearms. Are you sure you don't want the handgun one? If you don't and you want one later you'll have to go through this whole process again." At this point all I could think was 'It's a trap! Don't do it!'

Botttom line: blue states work overtime to block residents from exercising all of the constitutional rights but especially the 2nd amendment.

And the SCOTUS continues to refuse very critical cases against states who clearly shackle and block the free exercise of their citizen’s second amendment rights. There should be sever consequences for that court when continues to refuse hearings any legitimate Constitutional issue brought against a State by its citizens or when it rules against the Constitution Law as is written. Bring my back the gallows in the city square!!

Where in New Jersey? Not all parts of the state are the same. The big cities are pretty bad. The townships in the more rural (and red) counties -- "it depends".
