Civil War monument at Colorado Capitol toppled overnight
Greeley Tribune ^ | June 25 2020 | Shelly Bradbury and Sam Tabachnik

The Civil War monument erected in 1909 outside Colorado’s Capitol that commemorated, in part, the Sand Creek Massacre was toppled overnight, the latest act by protesters across the nation to tear down statues honoring perpetrators of racist acts.

Trooper Gary Cutler, spokesman for Colorado State Patrol, which polices the Capitol grounds, said “individuals” brought the statue down around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. He wouldn’t say how many were involved or whether their identities are known. The case has been turned over to the Denver Police Department.

“It was up yesterday and it was down today,” said Doug Platt, communications manager at the city’s Department of Personnel and Administration, which maintains the grounds and building.

The base of the monument is covered in graffiti — “Defund cops,” “Denver where are you?” — but Cutler said he didn’t know whether it was fresh or left over from the demonstrations that have taken place at the Capitol in the weeks since the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis sparked a nationwide movement for racial justice and police reform.

That’s all the BLM Antifa crowd can do.....destroy.

I have yet to see them build one good thing.

It doesn’t take any brains to destroy something, and that’s the only move they have! Sad.

There is an entire religion with the same issue. Not surprisingly, that religion is allied with these terrorists.

how big are the grounds? how could one not hear the noise or notice that people were gathering on the lawn?

Especially when Trump has announced he’s penning an EO to protect our historic monuments?

Yes, CO was Union - few skirmishes here and there and in NM/AZ.
Sand Creek was one of those massacres the white libs back east will always try to demonize the US Cavalry over.

It was probably the worst one of the Indian Wars - led by a former Methodist minister, Col. John Chivington.

I don’t even think Wounded Knee could hold a candle to it.

It’s a statue of a standing soldier, right in front of the capitol steps.

Lots of secessionists there during the war. Confederate agents were also stirring up the Indian tribes to attack the Union which they did.

The entire Hungate family was murdered mutilated and scalped about that time and caused Chivington to swear vengeance.

From Canada to Mexico the tribes were attacking the Union.

Years later, Chivington returned to Colorado for an Old Timer’s Convention. As the guest speaker he told of all that had led up to and Creek, the scalps found in the camp, the Confederate agents captured there. He then ended with the works...”I STAND BY SAND CREEK!”

The crowd went wild with cheering and applause. They remembered those bad old days.

The only reason San Creek is remembered is some Bostonians took up the weeping and wailing for the tribe. It made people forget about their own Pequot Massacre 230 years before.
