If we are going to "celebrate" the freed slaves by the mostly WHITE UNION soldiers, millions of whom were KIA and permanently damaged,maybe people need to get the shine boxes and polish those boots.

How about taking it this way. Emancipation Day is a holiday for all Americansnot just blacks. Those slaves didn’t (for the most part) free themselves. White folks, starting with Lincoln and millions of Union soldiers had a decisive hand in it. A victory for us all.

I have watched honored encouraged mannered Juneteenth parades and parties since the 50’s
In the 60’s we went to mostly or all black high schools
Just to watch the BOOKER T WASHINGTON bands at half time
