WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. attorney who oversaw key prosecutions of allies of President Donald Trump and an investigation into Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani is resigning from his post, officials said Friday.
Geoffrey Berman is stepping down as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, Attorney General William Barr said in a statement.
Barr said Trump intends to nominate Jay Clayton, the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to the post. The U.S. attorney in New Jersey, Craig Carpenito, will serve as the acting U.S. attorney in Manhattan, beginning on July 3, Barr said

I'd like to think that Barr is simply allowing him to get his affairs in order before they haul is ass to jail, but I've yet to see anyone from the dark side pay any sort of price yet.

Shannon Bream’s show just reported that he’s denying that he’s quitting. So he clearly doesn’t understand “at the pleasure of the President”.
The cable commie nets say Berman refuses to resign because he was not appointed by DjT and confirmed by the senate, but was appointed by the chief justice of the district to fill a vacancy.

Upon President Donald Trump's firing Preet Bharara as U.S. Attorney, Trump reportedly interviewed Berman among other candidates for the position. Berman had performed some part-time volunteer work for the Trump transition. On January 3, 2018, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Berman's appointment as U.S. Attorney, along with sixteen other former prosecutors, to serve in various offices around the country on an interim basis until the Senate can permanently confirm them.The Trump Administration never nominated Berman or most of the other interim appointments. On April 25, 2018, the Chief Judge of the Southern District of New York entered an order formally on behalf of a unanimous court appointing Berman United States Attorney pursuant to its authority under 28 U.S.C Section 546). Berman has the appointment indefinitely, until an individual nominated by the President is confirmed by the Senate, or he is dismissed from the position by the President.
He only thinks he is not leaving. Trump can fire him in a second and if that is what it takes I hope he does.
