What about the fact that many homes are small? Turn a corner with a long gun and the barrel could be grabbed, whereas that is much less likely with a pistol.

You want to fight with a pistol, go for it. And yes, it is as simple as I make it sound. Ill bet you havent trained with either.
Pistols even in a home environment are used to get to your long gun. My home defense primary are an AR-15 or Mossberg 500 in the master BR depending on inside vs outside threat.... AK in the living room and AR in foyer depending on needs. If I have to shoot, I want max stopping power and many rounds. Pistols are for when I go out away from the house.
Just my 2 cents.
Mossberg 500, Mossberg 590A1, Mossberg Maverick 88(least expensive), or Remington 870.
Look for variants of these in a “home defense” stature that has a tube magazine capacity of atleast 6 rounds.
