Reminder: The First Legal Slave Owner in America was a Black Man

Anthony Johnson (AD 1600 – 1670) was an Angolan who achieved freedom in the early 17th century Colony of Virginia.

Johnson was captured in his native Angola by an enemy tribe and sold to Arab (Muslim) slave traders. He was eventually sold as an indentured servant to a merchant working for the Virginia Company.

Sometime after 1635, Antonio and Mary gained their freedom from indenture. Antonio changed his name to Anthony Johnson.

In 1651 Anthony Johnson owned 250 acres, and the services of four white and one black indentured servants. The black indentured servant John Casor (Casar, Cazarao and Corsala) demanded that Johnson release him after his seven years of indenture...

John Casar requested that Johnson release him from his indenture because it had long expired past the usual seven years. Johnson replied that he knew of no indenture and that Casar was to be his servant for life...

The courts ruled in favor of Anthony Johnson and declared John Casor his property in 1655. Casor became the first person of African descent in Britain’s Thirteen Colonies to be declared as a slave for life as the result of Johnson’s civil suit.

Of course the Native Americans were taking and holding slaves widely before the Europeans arrived, but this was the first instance among the English colonies, in what later became the United States.

Please keep posting this history. Maybe someone will read it and it will sink in. Many if not most Americans think slavery was Alex Haley’s “Roots.”

As I posted the first time this same story was posted here (earlier today), there was no “America” yet and even if there were the Indians had slaves before any white Europeans came to this continent. So the headline is wrong twice over.

And the first person to die for the cause of colonial freedom was a black man, Crispus Atticus.

Maybe if we spent more time honoring the good and less time highlighting the bad, we would be a better country.

Slavery is an affront to God, no matter who does it.

It’s also worth noting that if Kunte Kinte Had gone N / NE, to Arabs as a slave, Roots would have been about 5 pages and been called stumps.

Slavery has existed since recorded history and exist today. Nobody I know alive today advocates for it but that’s just it about race and all this racial BS. The MSM & BLM and their supporters want to act like it is all a one way thing, specifically a white thing. Not only today but always has been. That if it weren’t for whites there would be no race issues. Global Nirvania would be reached. That black, brown or any other race never are racial & ‘racial injustices’ against whites or others are justified or just outright ignored. That blacks are actually saints and altruistic. That historic and current black brutal crimes against whites or others are not a race thing. That events like Rwanda didn’t happen. That people like Al Sharpton, Rev Wright, Farrakhan etc are all justified in their racial BS. That the same people advocating and leading this nation destroying juggernaut are also not the same crowds that advocated for and brought about destruction in places like Rhodesia & South Africa. The hypocrisy and examples of racial BS are numerous not just today but throughout history. It didn’t start with whites nor with this nation. Historically race and race issues have existed almost from the time of man and exist today all over the globe.

This whole thing about police ‘brutality’ against blacks in general and black males more specifically is myopic and BS. As if blacks and specifically black males don’t commit a hugely disproportionate amount of not only crime but violent crime and often racially motivated. As if experience of police in dealing long term with this segment and the related crime and attitude should have no bearing whatsoever in how this all goes.

I refuse to take a knee to BLM or play this very very dangerous anti-white crap that is going on right now. I also refuse to act like whites should not have a say when it comes to race or that anti-white laws and attitudes should prevail. That ‘racism’ is only in how non whites perceive things. This is a very precarious situation we are in and I will not be victim to some kind of revenge BS. F That!

Arguably, the headline contains the qualifier “legal” - don’t think there was any (codified) legal system on the American continent before the English et al. settlers brought that with them. Tribal customs probably don’t meet the standard of a “legal system” as we would understand it.

Hmmmmmm

about the same period that my ancestor was a slave...

In 1633 my 7 yo ancestor in Massachusetts Colony was placed into slavery until age 21 to pay for her father’s crimes of stealing corn and grain during a ‘starving time’...when she was about 13 she was sold to another “master”...Where’s my ‘reparations’...14 years at $5,000 an hour 24/7/365..Iz worth it ...

However by the time her grandsons were grown they were leaders and owned business and land in the New York Colony...

A from prison to the palace moment...

That was a seriously egregious ruling, probably the most destructive on American soil. No individual should ever have been allowed to be held in bondage for life, period.

Doesn’t matter. The standard dogma of the left is that all Whites are guilty by reason of having light skin.

“Please keep posting this history. Maybe someone will read it and it will sink in. Many if not most Americans think slavery was Alex Haley’s “Roots.””

I remember maybe 10 or 15 years a black reporter for PBS (of all outlets, LOL) went back to Africa to trace his ruts, and he found out a whole lot that made it difficult for him to deal with with his past - with the big one being that black tribes sold his (obviously black) ancestors ‘down the river’.

The honkies just stayed with their ships in port and bribed the locals...who would then go into the jungle, take whatever means needed to capture people from other tribes (maybe getting them drunk and then chaining them up), and bring them to the ships. Without the help of the locals, there would have been very few slaves for the New World, as the honkies were not about to venture into the jungle to capture them themselves.

The honkies, obviously, weren’t a bunch of angels, but pretty much all groups of people had lots of dirt on their hands.
