On Thursday, June 4, 2020, a 22-year-old activist named Kennedy Mitchum reached out to the publishers of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary to express her frustration with their definition of the word "racist:"
A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
Mitchum felt this was inadequate to fully cover the scope of systemic issues and unconscious biases that affect race relations in America. Growing up in Florissant, Missouri just a few miles away from Ferguson she'd grown tired of trying to explain to people that racism can come in different forms than cross burning in white hoods. It's not always a conscious, intentional, or deliberate attitude of hateful violence; it's often something more insidious. As she explained to CNN, "That definition is not representative of what is actually happening in the world. The way that racism occurs in real life is not just prejudice it's the systemic racism that is happening for a lot of black Americans."

“...it’s the systemic racism that is happening for a lot of black Americans.”
Caused by Democrats!
There is no systemic racism favoring white guys over blacks, females or another minority. My experience has been that institutional discrimination goes the opposite way.
...that comes from assuming that all the economic advantages seen by white people are not from their actions but only becuase of their skin color (i.e. White Privilege).
How is that for a definition of racism?
Thank you for that.
Emerson is in my all time top ten of writers.
The old Napoleon Hill books and similar ones quote him and quote from the essays “Compensation” and “Self-Reliance.”
At some point schools assigned anthologies which did not have these. Funny. I notice in the old days when printed books were in book stores that the “Compensation” essay was gone from most. A shame.
New versions could be “Government Reliance—Your Only Hope” and “Give Grief to the Ruling Class” for compensation.
This is to focus on alleged “systemic racism” here while ignoring real racism in China, Japan, etc.
Hey Merriam-Webster. Are you now in competition with Wikipedia?
They almost got the definition of racism to anything that upsets a leftist. It can be under the new one. I guess full on liberal is for next year.
That quote by Emerson maybe to most terrifying thing I will read today.
The word is dead, Jim.
Should worry the in crowd Dems that when BLM types carry hate signs about overthrowing, THEY are the police chief, mayor, governor, lt. governor, command under the police chief and most of the council members.
Black woman feminist mayor: "Yay. I'm with you. Take all those city government bosses out and tar and feather them. They endangered black citizens. Overthrow!"
PR assistant:"Uh, Kawalaeafrana, you are the mayor, remember?"
"Oh, crap. Forgot. Where's my limo? Let's get out of here."
I read this article. The response of the editor over at the dictionary office made me wonder: what is their definition of obsequious?
Let’s try: “obedient or attentive to an excessive or servile degree.”
Sounds about right.
That definition is not representative of what is actually happening in the world.”

Interpretation: It’s not good enough to have new words and definitions made to encompass new ‘crimes’, so we want to change the old highly charged word to encompass more behavior and even thoughts.
The house where Noah Webster compiled his first dictionary in 1806 is at Greenfield Village in Michigan. Upstairs, I looked at the examples of the hand written cards he used to carefully work out a definition from literature and science and other fields, with the knowledge that others would depend upon him for the closest he could get to accuracy. Not his personal bias if he could help it.
How sad to have his work corrupted and made into a short term PC travesty.
Next: violence is not harmful if for a good leftist cause. Conservative = purveyor of hate speech who should be punished for it./s
I didn’t find their definitions objectionable, regardless of what was asked for.

Apart from the vernacular definitions, they include
“2a: a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles
b: a political or social system founded on racism.”
Fine. Nothing to get up at arms about. I was concerned that I’d see a racist definition of “racism”, but I don’t see that here.
They can be read online here:

It was a lawyer who changed it. Ergo all laws have now changed.
Shakespeare knew the problem in this world.
Somewhere the racist definition should include the idea of obsession with skin color. To that extent, blacks have a major problem with “racism.”
BTW, nice quote form RWE.
Seems blacks want apartheid where they are the masters.
also ends all discussion of racism from certain communities because they now claim “don’t have access/control of the institutions of power to ‘be’ racist”
Even holding the White House, AG, etc for 8 years wasn’t “reigns of power”. < /s >
