Leaders of a Los Angeles teachers union said Monday that they support a movement to eliminate the Los Angeles School Police Department, with the funds instead used to help support the mental health of students, according to a report.
The law enforcement agency has about 410 police officers that serve the L.A. Unified School District, which enrolls more than 600,000 students. It accounts for roughly $70 million of the district’s $7.9 billion budget.
“We have to dismantle white supremacy. We must ... defund the police and bring in the mental health services that our students need,” said Cecily Myart-Cruz, the incoming president of United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), according to the Los Angeles Times.

Knee jerk reaction. They demanded that the schools needed armed police on campus to protect the “children” from a mass school shooter, but you couldn’t arm the teachers or staff because they aren’t properly trained and screened for psychological problems.
Now, let’s remove the armed police from our schools and leave the “children” unprotected. Maybe the school dietician can disarm the next school shooter by offering him a free pizza.
Kinda a bit of a fun time to be a LAUSD employee, I would suspect. Kick the police out just when California law forbids suspending or expelling students up to the 8th grade (12th grade in a couple years.)

Those teacher probably feel u n c o m f o r t a b l e with law enforcement being able to be around and know them and their business and behavior.
We had no cops in the halls when I went to school. I don’t think cops and school go together.
