New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees continues to stand against players kneeling during the national anthem when the season starts, and on Wednesday he told Yahoo Finance that he would never agree with the gesture.
I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country. Let me just tell you what I see or what I feel when the national anthem is played and when I look at the flag of the United States, Brees said.
After receiving backlash about his comments, Brees reiterated his stance later to ESPN saying that he also respects his teammates and their fight for "racial equality and justice."
Brees teammate Michael Thomas was one of the many athletes who reacted to the future Hall of Fame quarterbacks comments.
He dont know no better, Thomas wrote on his Twitter. We dont care if you dont agree and whoever else how about that.
Other athletes across the sports world shared their thoughts about Brees comments, including Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, and former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin, among others.
Former Saints teammates Kenny Vaccaro responded to Thomas on Twitter by saying, "That one hurt bro."

Drew should tell them all to screw, retire, and never give a nickel to charity again.
Did this guy get recruited out of college? Did they teach him about speaking in complete, coherent sentences?
He will be a HUGE TARGET if the season even gets going...........
Good for him. As long as he doesn’t back down, he’ll show more guts than Alejandro Villanueva did cowarding out the next day.
He was an Ebonics Major....................
Sad to see no other player with the guts to defend Brees. He did a d said nothing wrong.
Drew is a brave man if he steps foot on a NFL field again. Three hundred pound linemen will be looking stomp his ass to pieces.
drew brees does not have a right to free speech, only people who agree with the virtue signalling of colon kaepernick.
i have a problem with kneeling but i will not object to anyone who does, that is their right to be wrong.
Why is it that Drew Brees honoring his family members is “controversial” creating “backlash” with “intense pressure” to walk it back?
ANY statement of ANY kind is going to get some people complaining about it when hundreds of millions of Americans can get online and complain or act offended. It is only those who stand for decency, honor, family and God whose ordinary statements are immediately branded by the mass media as “controversial” and creating “division” by the mass media.
Sorry, but LeBron James showed the depth of his moral insights when he disparaged the Hong Kong protesters and kowtowed to the Chinese Communists for a few bucks. Simply refuse to give him any credibility.
More reasons not to watch the NFL or support their advertisers..
He dont know no better, Thomas wrote on his Twitter.
Says the illiterate doofus.

All lives matter. Say it loud, say it proud.
We are all one in America.
It’s the leftists that want to impost communist rule upon us that want to divide us as a nation and foment war so they can dictate which color, race, religion, whatever has supremacy today - so long as they remain in power.
We’re all being played. All we need to do is say “no”. That’s all.
You just know sideline activists will be out in force this year. The NFL should get a handle on this and embargo sideline televised shots until AFTER kickoff. In fact, maybe the SSB shouldnt be relevant all.
I’m sure he went to Florida, Alabama, or Tennessee and to be fair probably didn’t graduate. That’s not what they do at those Unis.
Good for him. As long as he doesnt back down
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Just heard a report on Boston sports radio.
He backed down.
That won’t help him, it will make it worse. He’s done now. They’ll _still_ get after him on the field and they will _still_ pummel him in the press.
His violation was speaking his opinion - they can’t let that ever happen.
Depends on his relationship with his offensive line. Technically Drew Brees said nothing wrong. Maybe he said this at a wrong time. If he waited until the first game in September, no one would had paid attention to his statement, most likely.
The day is coming when this will bring assault charges. There are rumbles of it in hockey, and it will surly come to these knuckle draggers.
