I think that the runway and all the hangers are now gone, replaced by housing. It was a good place to park the troops, the 3d Bde, 82d Abn Div and the 10th Marine Regiment. Fights broke out between the paratroopers and the Marines, so we were moved to the Pentagon where we bedded down in the hallways.

A platoon sergeant I had was one of those soldiers with you in the Pentagon. He met one of the secretaries there and later married her. He was close to retirement when I met him at Ft. Hood and he said he was retiring there, that the DC area wasn’t the place he grew up in (born/raised in Fairfax) and had no desire to return.
