They dont stop the virus, and I doubt, from what Ive seen, that they stop tear gas either. Maybe give you a few extra seconds to run away. The masks are to hide their faces.

Cavuto on Fox reporting just now that tear gas NOT used to clear Lafayette Park. Was used the night before.

That was my thought. Isn’t one of the missions of the “Old Guard” to protect federal facilities, monuments, etc. in the District? Will we see the Tomb of the Unknown defaced next? Maybe they’ll beat up the guards?
