Skepticism is at the heart of the scientific method. Question everything. Test everything. Scientific knowledge is established by evidence, not authority. The method is sound, but the execution may be imperfect. That's why I have faith in the methods of science but not necessarily in scientists.
Experts in science have a store of credibility that can be maintained only by their performance. I have a great deal of trust in the meteorologists at the National Weather Service because their forecasts are 80%90% accurate (no weatherman jokes, please I used to be one!). But if most of their predictions began to fail, I would turn elsewhere for my weather forecasts.
So it comes as a surprise that so many in the public have expressed a growing trust in medical scientists, even after a series of spectacular failures. According to a newly published survey by Pew Research, public confidence in medical scientists to act in the best interest of the public increased from 35% in 2019, with "a great deal of confidence before the outbreak," to 43% in April 2020.
Granted, some of the public health failures surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic were the result of incomplete data, but many of them could have been avoided:

REAL science is never settled. New discoveries all the time turn the generally accepted hypotheses, upon which the forensic study of science is based, on its head, and form the new, more encompassing hypothesis, into the comparison upon which all the previous empirical findings are based.
This requires a sometimes very high order of critical thinking, and the use of both inductive and deductive reasoning, skills sadly lacking in the adherents of the “settled science” cult.

I’ve always said that if you can’t question it, it probably ain’t science.
Science these days, is bought and paid for by politicians who expect a desired result in order to further their personal agendas.
Science shouldn’t be political and viruses aren’t racist.
Real science is good and useful. We have weaponized political science today. The the most murderous ideas of the last 100 years all loudly claimed they were only following pure science. Eugenics, nazis, and the communists.
When progressives use the phrase question science, what they mean is that no one should question the leftist politicization of science.
They see science not as a method of observation and investigation, but as a belief system that it is blasphemy to deny, at least when its conclusions conform to their agenda. Leftists are perfectly comfortable denying science basic biology, for example when it doesnt suit their political needs.
