Derek Chauvin, who was fired on Tuesday along with three other officers involved in the detainment of Floyd, was taken into custody Friday and faces charges of 3rd-degree murder and manslaughter, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced.
Floyd pleaded "I can't breathe," as Chauvin, who is white, kneeled on Floyd's neck for around eight minutes on Monday night, in an arrest that was videotaped by bystanders. The police department initially said Floyd, who was black, "physically resisted" the officers and that he died after "suffering medical distress."
Freeman said he anticipated more charges to come, possibly against some of the other three officers.
The investigation is ongoing," Freeman said, "We felt it was appropriate to focus on the most dangerous perpetrator. This case has moved with extraordinary speed.
Just 24 hours earlier, Freeman had said the case still needed more investigation.
But by Friday, Freeman said enough evidence had been gathered.
"All of that has come together and we felt, in our professional judgement, it was time to charge," Freeman told reporters.

I wonder where the venue will be. Cannot possibly be in St Paul/Minneapolis area, for purposes of a fair trial.
They'll look silly if he swallowed a bag of heroin and od'd.
Seroiusly, when they announced that the autopsy was complete but didn't release the cause of death I thought something's up.
My first thought is that it's "undetermined" which will not quell the howling mob.
Meanwhile, in Chicago this week, 72 shot 14 homicides.
And in case you didn't see this because it wasn't reported:

Murder 3 and Manslaughter 2
There will never be evidence of that.
Maybe not. Witnesses say (and video evidence will support that), that a 2nd officer took Floyd's pulse after Floyd appeared unresponsive, and the 2nd officer told the 1st officer he should release his knee from Floyd's neck because of the lack of a pulse. The murdering officer disregarded that and continued to press on the neck. That is a disregard for the black man's life, an intent to kill and grounds for 2nd degree murder.
The full report of the ME is pending but the ME has made the following preliminary findings. The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.
“”””””””I presume that it wasn’t a heroin overdose though if they’re charging this guy with murder. “”””””””””””
They HAD to charge him now. In order to stop the mob they had to throw out a bone and make it look they were doing something.
Later, when the real facts are know it can be taken care of.
It’s possible for him to be charged under the above statute in Federal court and if convicted, receive the death penalty.
“Under Color of Law” is particularly egregious.
There will be federal hate crimes charges after the state trial, no matter the result.
None of them mentioned using their nightsticks or Maglites or tasers or firearms.
But you keep up with your wishful thinking.
There are nine uncut minutes of the perp with his knee on the victim's neck, taken from six feet away, no camera tricks; including the knee on the neck for 2 1/2 minutes after the victim evacuated his bowels and bladder.
Mr. Kneecap has been arrested for Murder 3 and manslaughter.
When its proven not to be murder, what next?
Right. Not that I’ve seen. Cause of death is usually important in a murder case.
Do you have a source for that information?
Mr. Kneecap has TEN prior excessive force complaints against him, which the County Attorney declined to pursue.
Her name was Amy Klobuchar, current US Senator from Minnesota, and until this blew up, a hopeful for VP under Biden.
She won't help his votes in MN or the black community after this.
But those looters and arsonists are protestors?
I'm not saying the officer isn't responsible for Floyd's death, but has the results of the autopsy been made public yet? Do they have the results of the autopsy, and haven't released it? How do you charge someone with murder if you don't know how, or why the person died? I don't see any of that info in this story.
So the knee on the neck did not kill him?
3rd degree murder is better than no charges at all.
“”””Right. Not that Ive seen. Cause of death is usually important in a murder case.”””””
Yeah, it’s possible the lawyers will mention it a time or two.
Curious, are you still waiting for the facts here? Will you accept a guilty verdict if that’s what happens?
“I don’t know why 4 experienced police officers couldn’t subdue a suspect “
Because half of LEO’s couldn’t run 1/4 mile, lift their own body weight off the ground, do 10 pull ups, or carry a bag of donuts out of a cruiser.
Weak bodies, weak minds, power trips . . . but STRONG in the only thing that matters to them. Strong Union Pensions!
If kneeling on a neck for 8 minutes is SOP for Cops, they need to fix that.
Train for hand to hand & drop the Effer.
It’s also s big reason why Gals and Those Yet to Decide should not be in arms reach of perps.
