Although I write about the political media a lot, I don’t consume as much of it as most people might think. The political press in this country is full of tedious, irresponsible idiots, and who needs to subject themselves to that? White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany is changing my attitude on that a bit though.
McEnany so routinely chides the White House press corps that they’ll probably keep wearing masks long after the coronavirus pandemic is over just to hide their embarrassed faces.
Sarah Sanders was good at knocking the press pool around a little, but it’s McEnany’s style that I have fun watching. She effortlessly sneaks barbs in and she seems to really be enjoying herself.
Earlier in the month McEnany responded to a deliberately obtuse question from a reporter about Obamagate by noting that there had been a “lack of journalistic curiosity” in the press about the scandal.
Like her boss, McEnany is fond of reminding CNN what a bunch of hacks they are, which never, ever gets old.
For too many years now journalists in general have been injecting themselves into stories, which was a professional taboo a very long time ago. In the Trump era, the White House press corps has really taken this lack of professionalism up a notch or two. CNN’s Jim Acosta is a self-aggrandizing tool who is just there to grandstand.
The press and talking heads on cable news are not pleased with McEnany’s performance so far, which just makes me like her even more, of course.
On this week’s Fox News Sunday, FNC’s Trump-hater in-chief Chris Wallace led a complaint panel that devoted some time to whining about McEnany.

THIS is how you deal with the deep-state and the left - mockery.
She’s good and she just talks over their, inane, barbed questions and puts out the truth.
What is one of the tenets of Alinskys ultimate plan? Ridicule......ridicule your opposition as it is tough to refute ridicule. (Paraphrased)
RE: Shes good and she just talks over their, inane, barbed questions and puts out the truth.
These press briefings are now turning into nothing but verbal wrestling matches.
The questions from so-called “reporters” are mostly gotcha questions designed not to elicit useful information to the public but to AGITATE.
Challenges them to answer questions which makes it a 2 way street. The lefty media hates that...what a concept and LONG overdue.
Indeed, as Alinsky wrote, ridicule is one of the most powerful weapons you can use against your opponent. She knows Alinsky.
She really is great with the enemy press.
One thing I would like to hear her say is “if you want to ask a question, please ask it. If you want to make a statement, take a camera with you and make it on the front steps.” Or something to that effect. If she would do that I would watch her every press conference.
She fights hard and she’s impeccably prepared; God help the reporter who tries to ask a “gotcha” question and she starts thumbing through her binder.
The snobby, elitist press is also learning they are intellectually outmatched, as she is likely better educated and quicker on her feet than any of them.
Must be a bitter pill to swallow.
She’s good. Doesn’t get flustered, and block/bridges back to the messagess of the day very well. It helps too that the WHPC are so awful these days. It used to be a prestige assignment...now, it seems like a daycare in there.
Sorry for the typo. On my cell without reading glasses!
“Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch, criticized White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Sunday, saying her treatment of the White House Press Corps is indefensible and grotesque and akin to being a Twitter troll who does not care about her actual job.”
The article says this about Jonah Goldberg:
It should be noted that Jonah is a never Trump guy who isnt going to like anything done by anyone in this administration.
I think its cool that the guy who spent the 00s calling the French Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys because they didnt join us in the Iraq invasion is crying about the coarsening of American politics.
The behavior of McEnanys that Jonah Goldberg finds grotesque is a gale-force breath of fresh air for those of us who long-ago grew weary of the presss anti-conservative antics. Shes the perfect press secretary for this president, especially at this time. The press has become even worse during this pandemic lockdown nightmare.
Trump needs someone precisely like McEnany in that role right now. A press secretary who will go on the offensive when the press corps is living down to expectations. If her Friday press briefing is still the topic of conversation for the Sunday talking heads shows shes doing something correctly.
“The questions from so-called reporters are mostly gotcha questions designed not to elicit useful information to the public but to AGITATE.”
Which is exactly how they moderate all of the debates.
She had a bunch of questions for them which she used to end the session. Next time she asked if anybody there had any answers for her.... crickets. She was ready. “Maybe you need visual aids to help you learn “ . She had PowerPoint slides ready to go!
This gals primary objective is to control the message in these silly press briefings. I believe the secondary objective is to make these reporters want to quit their jobs or maybe even off themselves before walking into that White House media room again.
