Editorial Dispatch: Shame on those who smear good journalists. Catherine Herridge deserves better
The Lowell Sun ^ | 05-18-2020 | Tom Shattuck

Last week, CBS News senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge broke a huge national story: Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell had declassified an “unmasking list” of people around President Obama who had requested intelligence on a member of the incoming Trump administration.

Among the people on the list were UN Ambassador Samantha Power, White House Chief of Staff Dennis McDonough and then Vice President Joe Biden. There were sixteen in total.

“Unmasking” allowed those 16 to read an unredacted transcript of a phone call or phone calls between incoming Trump DNI Michael Flynn and then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

The truth is that Herridge has been a dutiful reporter her entire career. She has never shown bias and if she has any political affiliation she does not make it known. She is a consummate reporter and perhaps the best journalist in television news in Washington, D.C.

For thuggish political operatives and toxic mean-girl media types to disparage her work because it offends their biased belief systems is shameful and malicious.

In a town of political activists disguised as journalists, we are blessed to have Herridge standing watch.

The Ministry of Propaganda nor any of its minions have any shame.

Herridge is of the few real journalists working today, there are but a handful.

The rest are propagandists.

They are envious, the best they can do is pull a Weiju Jiang hissy fit.

Good journalism dosen’t get dumped on. Contrived journalism, yellow journalism, propagandist journalism, all are noticed and is very telling. Regardless of the spin, smoke, and bluster of propagation, of lies, speculation, opinion, and innuendos... gets dumped on.

“She went to CNN. She deserves nothng.”

Your opinion might carry at least a bit of weight if you had your facts straight.....She went to work for CBS.

I concur. However, your statement sadly reveals how low our media have gone.

The mere application of reporting facts, against the tide of group-think, is now an act of bravery.

Wish she had no left Fox. She is one of the few whose work I respect. I just hope she hasn’t sold her credibility and good name with her contract. Had a prospective employer try to do that with me once upon a time.

She has always been a straight shooter without all the embellishing or overtones so many reporters have. She doesn’t broadcast any bias; just tells it as it is. At least when she worked at FNC she was that way. Haven’t seen her since then.

Journalist are not reporters, there is a huge difference.

It’s explained quite well in the Humphrey Bogart film “Deadline USA”.
