"Liberty is a type of freedom defined and limited by civil society. It is not an unrestrained, unchecked license to do whatever one desires. Rather, liberty is a right constituted by the society - or, here, nation - one lives in.
Americans do not believe or accept that Liberty is defined by and granted by our society or nation. As eloquently and definitively stated in the American Declaration of Independence, liberty is an unalienable right endowed by our creator. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
Data show that people of color are suffering higher rates of COVID-19 infection and mortality than white people. Data also show that pandemic protesters are largely right-wing white people. It does not take a genius to comprehend how the language of freedom and liberty has been weaponized against black and brown communities in America."
First, 'people of color' is a ridiculous phrase that is designed to create divisions. We all have 'color' (this woman is blonde, and clearly her face has 'color' - per the picture posted). That said, people wanting to open their businesses so that they can make a living, provide for their families, and have some stability in their lives is not an act of prejudice or racism. That's patently absurd, and irresponsible to write or suggest. There are plenty of hard working enterprising 'people of color' who are suffering because the businesses they own, or that they work for, are shut down. Collapsing the economy affects everyone to varying degrees - (although it doesn't seem to keep Pelosi from stocking her high-end refrigerator/freezer with ice cream).
Second, most of the Covid associated deaths in the US have been in a few states, and generally from the urban areas of those states. Those urban areas generally have more African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians (who arguably have more travel connections to the original outbreak in China) than other areas of the nation. 'Whites' are a minority in NYC (~42.7% in 2019). We should be looking at why any communities have increased rates of Covid infection, or increased mortality rates. We shouldn't, however, try to drive a wedge between people of different backgrounds during every hardship our nation is faced with. That's harmful to all, and extremely irresponsible.
