The Guardian reported that a lawyer told them he was once a spy for the GRU, the new KGB...
So Rinat was not the Russian spy at Trump Tower, despite CNN’s contributor at the time Michael Weiss and the Guardian, among others, insinuating he was. At best, he was guarding gates and delivering packages as a young Russian soldier...
In the summer of 2017, when the Russia investigation was heating up and the same people who are now quoted under oath to having no evidence of collusion were on TV every night saying the exact opposite, Rinat thought it was best to get ahead of the story and disclose their meeting.

Lynch, President Obama’s attorney general, said she never knew the FBI was placing wiretaps on a Trump campaign volunteer or using the dossier claims of former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to put the entire Trump world under suspicion. Mr. Steele was handled by Fusion GPS and paid with funds from the Democratic Party and the Hillary Clinton campaign.
“I don’t have a recollection of briefings on Fusion GPS or Mr. Steele,” Ms. Lynch told the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in October 2017. “I don’t have any information on that, and I don’t have a recollection being briefed on that.”...

“Steve Bannon testified that he and I spoke regularly about WikiLeaks,” Stone told “Coast to Coast AM” with George Noory, referring to Bannon’s trial testimony before the pending release of House Intelligence investigation interview transcripts.
“I’ll be very anxious to see whether what Steve told the committee under oath is different than what he said on the stand, because he and I never discussed WikiLeaks – although, according to him, we discussed it in every conversation and that I was viewed in the campaign as the access point to WikiLeaks, which would be news to me.”
It turns out, Stone has a point here. Bannon not only denied talking about WikiLeaks with Stone, he denied much contact with Stone at all until after the election. It is a key point, because Stone was investigated for allegations of pre-election WikiLeaks activity, not about talking about WikiLeaks after the election...
