Five Eyes network contradicts theory Covid-19 leaked from lab: No current evidence to suggest Coronavirus leaked from Wuhan research lab, agencies say
The Guardian ^ | 05/04/2020

There is no current evidence to suggest that coronavirus leaked from a Chinese research laboratory, intelligence sources have told the Guardian, contradicting recent White House claims that there is growing proof this is how the pandemic began.

The sources also insisted that a “15-page dossier” highlighted by the Australian Daily Telegraph which accused China of a deadly cover up was not culled from intelligence from the Five Eyes network, an alliance between the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

British and other Five Eyes agencies do believe that Beijing has not necessarily been open about how coronavirus initially spread in Wuhan at the turn of the year. But they are nervous about getting involved in an escalating international situation.

On Sunday Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state, said: “I can tell you that there is a significant amount of evidence that this came from that laboratory in Wuhan.”

No evidence was offered by Pompeo to back up his assertion but information has been circulating over the last month in the UK, US and Australia aimed at raising questions about the high security Wuhan Institute of Virology, which has long specialised in researching coronaviruses in horseshoe bats.

Stories have suggested that workers in the lab may not have always used full protective equipment, and that in one instance a bat urinated on a researcher who did not subsequently become ill.

But there is nothing to indicate a leak from the lab could have caused the pandemic, sources say.

Claims are even made that the virus was genetically engineered in Wuhan, although there is both scientific and intelligence agency agreement that there is no evidence for this.

American scientists who have worked with the Wuhan Institute add its safety standards are comparable to Western equivalents –

OK, we now have competing sources.

On the one hand we have this from FOX NEWS:

A research dossier compiled by the so-called “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance, that reportedly concludes China intentionally hid or destroyed evidence of the coronavirus pandemic, is consistent with U.S. findings about the origins of the outbreak so far, senior U.S. officials told Fox News on Saturday.

The 15-page document from the intelligence agencies of the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, was obtained by Australia’s Saturday Telegraph newspaper and finds that China’s secrecy amounted to an “assault on international transparency.”

Now we have this report from the GUARDIAN:

There is no current evidence to suggest that coronavirus leaked from a Chinese research laboratory, intelligence sources have told the Guardian, contradicting recent White House claims that there is growing proof this is how the pandemic began.

The sources also insisted that a “15-page dossier” highlighted by the Australian Daily Telegraph which accused China of a deadly cover up was not culled from intelligence from the Five Eyes network, an alliance between the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

SO, we have Fox News’ research dossier ( sources from the Telegraph ) vs. The Guardian’s own “intelligence source”.

Who to believe?

intelligence sources have told the Guardian

We're supposed to believe the Guardian's "sources" and not Pompeo. Sure.

I sense that Australia and the US think it deserves serious investigation whether the virus leaked from the lab, while the U.K., driven by PM Johnson and perhaps hoping to preserve scientific and research ties with the PRC, thinks not.

I have no sense of what the position of Canada and NZ is.

Just my read of the tea leaves.

If it is admitted that it came from a lab then it is admission of the creation of a bio-weapon.

Do they actually have any evidence of their own or is a random guess like they accuse others of enough to run a news story on?

Another news source with an infinite lack of curiosity.

“there is no evidence” is their calling card.

Other than taking the demonstrable liars at their word, have you looked anywhere other than away?

The Guardian is the most ant-American rag from the UK. Hands down. Archive every article since 2000, esp 2003 with the Iraq War and these clowns make the NYT look like Fox News.

As a reminder, the editors PHYSICALLY tried to house arrest Dick Cheney when he was in London for a speech right after the Iraq war. No bias right?

"There is no current evidence to suggest that coronavirus leaked from a Chinese research laboratory.."

Is there evidence it didn't?

Because the chinese know they have no reason to worry about losing face, having torched all evidence.

The chinese will not allow inspection of the wuhan lab, until completely scrubbed.

Including lab workers disappeared/replaced.

If it is admitted that it came from a lab then it is admission of the creation of a bio-weapon.

This assertion is wrong on two counts. First, just because it was leaked from a lab does not demonstrate that it was genetically engineered by the lab. Second, whether it was engineered, or not, its existence in the lab could be so that they could infect animals in order to develop vaccines.

There is no evidence it came from anywhere else, though either. The closest known virus relative to Covid-19 did exist in that lab though, and is called RATG13. How did it get there? It was transported there by Chinese scientists, who brought it to Wuhan from a cave that was hundreds of miles away.

What if it’s proven that China malisciously released the virus? Is the world ready for WWIII?
Who will fight and subsidize the war but US?

What exactly could we do about it if there was evidence?

A reasonable consequence of such a thing would be an act of war to destroy the facility and the Government that did such an incompetent job of operating such a dangerous program.

We are, of course, completely unable to perform such actions with any prospects of success. Moreover a number of our key political authorities have obviously been bought (or at least rented) by the Chinese. So, our guys go along with the Chinese story that "there is no evidence".

It is too unsettling to admit anything else.
