Between 271 and 275 A.D., the Roman Emperors Aurelian and Probus, built walls surrounding the City of Rome. If memory serves me--it's been a long time since I read his Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire--Gibbon observed that their construction was monumental but melancholy because it indicated that Roman law was no longer healthy enough to protect the city, i.e. because decadence had reduced Roman society to that level.

There was a time when the integrity of American society and law prevented the unimpeded flow of illegal immigrants, drugs, and diseases across the US borders.

Today, half of America having succumbed to the decadence of Western Civilisation, law and integrity no longer suffice, and a border wall is necessary.

Decadence brings nothing good to a society. Collapse and destruction are its result.

President Trump and his supporters believe that, until a civilisation has reached a certain level of decadence, collapse and destruction are not inevitable and that US society has not yet degenerated to this level--that the decadence can still be reversed and the USA sent soaring to new and unprecedented heights of ascendency, magnificence, and glory.

President Trump was sufficiently convinced of it to risk everything--a considerable amount in his case--to save America from collapse and destruction.

That's what the Trump Revolution is all about.

Those who oppose him welcome the decadence, some because of ignorance or low intellect, some because they love the indulgence of immorality that it encourages, some from apathy, some for self-serving purposes and malevolent intent; some are merely misguided. There are no doubt other motives.

Certainly Democrat politicians find the crass importation of illegal immigrants beneficial to their election attempts, for if they can import large numbers of them and supply they with US welfare benefits, through voter fraud or amnesty, they can increase the number of pro-Democrat voters.

Pray that President Trump is right, that the decadence of Western Civilisation can be reversed in America, that the American Dream is not doomed, and that the USA will soar to unprecedented heights of splendour and ascendency.

Pray that America will remain on the Side of the Angels.

Not really. I think it is a 336FL or a 349FL...about 36 - 49 tons.

A big one is 200tons on up.

Have loved big iron since I was a kid.

Biggest I ever sold was an Hitachi EX5500. Yep, 550 tons.

Excellent video... Together with the new Border Patrol Web Cam, it makes tracking wall construction much more meaningful...

It looks like a throwback to the times when the U.S.A. could roll up it's sleeves and accomplish anything...
For just a few examples:

• The G-W bridge (Providing for future 2nd deck);
• Other Colorado River Dams;
• The Alaskan highway (During WWII);
• The liberty ships;
• The A-Bomb;
• The interstate highway system; and now,

You are correct, but no amount of vigorous enforcement can work effectively without first building and defending the wall.

You are dead wrong, no wall will every matter until we have vigorous enforcement. As I said before this wall can be easily breached with common battery tools available at Home Depo or dozens of others places.

I think we are talking past each other, as I am in favor of very vigorous enforcement of the border and immigration laws. At the same time, I believe you underestimate the new border wall's effectiveness. No barrier is 100% effective, but any breaches will be small, observed and very short-lived. And as for those common Home Depot battery tools, I suspect the Border Patrol will be there to greet anyone who manages to cut through just one of those concrete-filled 8" pipes. Even if a few succeed here or there, that'd be a far cry from the hordes that now cross the old fences en masse. Stop the bleeding, then heal the body.

If you had enough border guards to do that you wouldn't need a wall. As long as the penalty for crossing the border illegals is a plus, you will continue to have people crossing or burying under any structure. Beside much easier to come across as a guest worker and just disappear into the population.
