Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., had some harsh words for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., after the latter suggested that state governments should be able to declare bankruptcy during the coronavirus pandemic.
".@senatemajldr McConnell’s dismissive remark that States devastated by Coronavirus should go bankrupt rather than get the federal assistance they need and deserve is shameful and indefensible," King tweeted Wednesday.
"To say that it is 'free money' to provide funds for [...] cops, firefighters and healthcare workers makes McConnell the Marie Antoinette of the Senate," he added.

However, they were already in trouble BEFORE all of this happened and it has made it much worse than it was going to be.
Cuomo is looking to wipe the slate clean with federal money. Trump is saying we’ll give you the difference between where you were going to end up and where you are now.
For NY it was 7 billion in the hole, and it’s now like 16 billion. That’s a 9 billion gap and growing.
McConnell is saying you’re going to keep the 7 billion hole because you need to own THAT. You created that and it’s your problem. We’ll give you the difference but not the whole 16 billion.
Peter, your New York politicians signed you up for those lavish public employee pensions, YOU pay for them.
I know Cuomo must be aware that there are still some NYers with disposable income.

I agree with King. New York State gives a lot more to the federal government than it takes in compared to other states. As long as the money is used to help fire fighters, police, hospital workers, public health workers etc. and other items related to this crisis, I have no problem with it. Not providing the proper funding to the states would create all sorts of economic and social problems that we don’t need now.

NY and Ill-annoy, among others, dug their holes. They have avoided the responsibility of filling in these holes. Not up to the responsible taxpayers of other states, who never had a vote in running up those debts, to bail them out.
