San Diego protesters say county overreaching on coronavirus restrictions; sheriff threatens legal action

A coastal city in San Diego County is demanding that county officials return local control over its access to public spaces such as walking trails and beaches.

Encinitas, which is about 25 miles north of San Diego, made national headlines Sunday when a group of about 200 people gathered to protest the city’s closure of the Coastal Rail Trail and a portion of South Highway 101 to pedestrians amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city's closure of those public spaces came less than a week after the county's Health and Human Services Agency issued an order that prohibited the public from "swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, boating for recreational purposes and all other water recreational activities" at beaches.

We just had the 100th (alleged) covid death in San Diego County. Fifty percent are age 80+, and another 37.5% are 60-79. The death rate in a population of 3.338 million is 0.00003, or three one thousandths of one percent(!)

Yet, the govt. bureaucrats have America’s Finest City (and county) locked down tighter than a drum. The citizenry are not going to stand for it much longer.

I remember when San Diego was a conservative community, lived there through grad and law schools.

It seemed as SDPD hired a lot of ex military back then, creating a really top shelf police force.

Is Paul Fingst still DA? I went to a high school with him in Vista. Nerdy looking red headed kid. Guess he found revenge.

What’s hilariously ironic is that Trump haters have plastered their cars and social media with RESIST stickers.

Love it.

Pfingst still practices law in San Diego, but is not the DA. Summer Stephan is the current DA.

The city has gone blue, although the mayor, Kevin Faulconer, is a Republican. He’s done a good job, but is term limited. Almost certain city voters will elect a ‘RAT in the fall.

County is going blue, too, although still pockets of conservatives here & there. Losing battle, I’m afraid.

Vista was once fairly conservative. I returned after nearly 30 years in the military to a very different place. You should read the stuff on Nextdoor for our local neighborhoods.
