Precisely! For instance, Florida was projected to be the next “hotspot” after New York and experts warned that by this week, there would be a demand for 465,00-plus hospital beds in Florida. Actual demand as of this week is slightly more than 2,000! Sounds rather like the initial nationwide projection of 1.5 to 2 million deaths nationwide, which has been revised to ~60,000.

The Fed Govt doesn’t have any statutory basis saying that the states have to stay shut down.

So this win goes to the state.

I’ve got $1 that says Georgia reopens and there is no spike in deaths.

Bottom line: You are NOT going to stop people from catching the virus.

You are NOT going to stop people from getting sick.

Both of those are unrealistic, unattainable goals.

The only attainable goals are and ever were:

1) Bend the hospitalization curve down so that demand does not outstrip hospital capacity (Mission Accomplished!)

2) Protect vulnerable individuals to the best of our ability.

98% recover and are fine. That fact has totally disappeared from the public discourse on this.

I agree. This is a highly viable theory. Trump is a team player.

Yep, I agree & support Trump on about everything but he needs to leave Kemp alone....Liberals will now use Trumps words to try and destroy the Georgia Governor...Don’t bitch up with Cuomo & attack Kemp....Stop with the popularity contest...

I suspect DJT and Kemp have had a few phone calls in which Kemp agreed to take the hit from DJT to allow the President to seem cautious and gain some cred AND put the feces throwing monkeys into stillness.

I think the President's concern was and is sincere.

I'm hoping the Georgia Bd. of Health has a way to insure PPE and social distancing are in use in hair salons, barber shops, nail salons and tattoo parlors.

I'm also hoping Georgia's strategy is successful so others can follow its lead.

Well, the media is playing with words here. Trump politely said he likes Kemp, that ultimately the decisions is up to Kemp as governor, but in his personal opinion, Kemp should be a little more restrictive and maybe wait a bit longer. Kemp defended his decision equally as politely. There is no fight here like the media would like to suggest.

Never applied that there was a fight. Only that Kemp was sticking to his guns.

Kemp is the governor so it’s his call. At least he has the guts to make the call and take responsibility.

Some idiot reporter asked about why Kemp was opening gyms — but gyms are actually ON the phase one list. It was tattoo parlors and hair salons that were not.

Because gyms tend to actually be pretty clean places; people don’t like to get sick, and don’t like other people’s sweat, so most gyms have disinfectant readily avialable, and people wipe down every piece of equipment before AND after use.

Meanwhile, a tattoo is some guy who spends hours stabbing you repeatedly, plenty of risk of transmitting infections, and frankly, maybe not as high on the “importance” list. ALthough a good tattoo parlor is also going to be highly sanitary, to avoid infections because that ruins tattoos.

I can’t wait until the gyms re-open here, we do swimming, and so it’s hard to do that at home.

Until they shut down the pools, that was my primary cleansing each day for the virus, a 30-minute lap swim in chlorine, followed by a hot soapy shower.

I don’t know — won’t most liberals now have exploding heads, while they temper their “we want economy to fail” with “whatever Trump is against, we are for”?

Perhaps the critics are right. Perhaps there will be a virus rebound and this will be a total disaster.
**********
Rebound to what? This virus was never harmful enough to warrant mass close-downs. Some with few symptoms. Most people are recovering without hospitalization. Hospitalization only for people with underlying conditions, who can be protected without locking everyone else in. The proof has been amply reported here on FR.

POTUS really raked Kemp in his presser today. Repeated his name over and over. I don’t think they like each other.
