CARROLLTON, Ga. (WSAV) – Two Georgia high school seniors have been expelled and will reportedly not graduate after posting a racist video on social media.

Two seniors at Carrollton High School posted the video on TikTok on Thursday, where it quickly went viral and spread across other social media platforms. The video shows the two students using the n-word and saying derogatory things about African Americans.

The students, one boy and one girl, can be seen in a bathroom mimicking a cooking show using labeled cups of water.

“First, we have ‘black’,” the girl can be heard saying, as the boy pours a cup of water in the sink. “Next, we have ‘don’t have a dad’.”

The two then pour cups of water labeled “Eat watermelon and fried chicken”, “Rob people”, and “Go to jail” into the sink, and skip pouring a cup labeled “Make good choices.”

The students were quickly identified, and Carrollton City School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus issued a statement Thursday night.

“Please know this video is being addressed immediately and any student involved in the production of this video will face serious consequences,” Albertus said.

‘Even requiring the students to complete additional work as a condition of a graduation diploma could be viewed as a violation of the equal protection clause of thee Constitution.’

I agree with thy thought...

The Constitution does not guarantee free speech without consequence and social media is not your friend.

It d@mn sure guarantees that those consequences will not come from government. What the community chooses to do is one thing, but government cannot impose penalties on people for their speech.

Can you explain to me how the school is within any legal rights by expelling these students for what they did while (a) not on school property and (b) not under the supervision of the school?

My school district in CA (San Ramon Valley Unified) just settled for $650,000 when sued for doing exactly this.

The US Supreme Court has addressed the issue of students’ rights; they don’t have as many as adults but school districts are definitely overreaching when they get involved with kids’ actions on the weekend, at home, in social media posts that don’t even mention the school or other students.

Maybe these kids aren't racist at all. Maybe they are geniuses and figured out a surefire way to get $650,000.

the School should have required them to complete a research project, complete with new postings on social media about positive accomplishments of blacks.

An essay written on a 3x5 card would have made more people mad.

“Please know this video is being addressed immediately and any student involved in the production of this video will face serious consequences,” Albertus said.

"...because - on their own time, on their own computers, and outside of school property - they said things that, in our opinion, are offensive and hurtful."

The school is probably taking a shot at "virtue signaling".

The district official statement..."A school district spokesperson confirmed to news outlets that the students will not be graduating as planned at the end of the spring semester." says it all.

There probably isn't going to be a ceremony anyway, but I'd bet that these two will simply get their diploma mailed to them and not be allowed to participate if there is a ceremony.

The diploma is a toy, the real graduating is done in the registrar's office and you can bet that these two will quietly cross that line there.

I haven’t seen the video, but from the written description it sounds like they are saying that black stereotypes need to be poured down the drain because they are inherently wrong. I guess it doesn’t come across that way if the kids are white, which is a stereotype as well - that all white kids are racist.

“The Constitution does not guarantee free speech without consequence and social media is not your friend. “

Actually, the Constitution does guarantee free speech without government consequence (with exception for threats of violence). Assuming that the school involved is a public school, the first Amendment does apply here. The second part of your statement is undoubtedly true.

Seems to me, repugnant beliefs are your right.. unless they attend a private school, I don’t see how what they do and believe on their own time can be used to prevent them from graduating.

If it’s a private school they can do whatever they like.

When will white kids learn they cannot say bad things about black people? Everyone out there can bash whites, but noblesse oblige, you see.

I don’t approve of white kids making fun of black kids, but it does rather gall me that black kids can BEAT UP WHITE KIDS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS and still graduate.

= = =

Maybe if they are supposed to be ‘educated’ at home, the home becomes under school control.

The journey to and from school is considered such.

Well the good news is that as long as they are Democrats, they can still become a governor.

The Constitution does not guarantee free speech without consequence...

It does guarantee no consequences from government entities, like the Carrollton City School District.
