FBI failed to review Steele's ties to Russians, warned some of dossier was Moscow disinformation

Declassified footnote lays out intelligence community concerns about Steele's ties to Russia and disinformation

Key FBI officials failed to review an intelligence file identifying Christopher Steele's ties to Russian oligarchs and were later advised some of the information he provided agents in his dossier appeared to be misinformation planted by Russian intelligence, according to declassified information made public Friday.

The explosive revelations were contained in footnotes that had been originally redacted from Justice Department inspector general Michael Horowitz's December report on FBI failures in the Russia case. The information was provided to two Senate committees in recent days.

One of the newly declassified footnotes highlights a glaring misstep early in the Russia case, when key officials failed to review the intelligence control file for Steele, a former MI6 agent who approached the FBI with unverified allegations about Trump after he was hired to do opposition research by the firm working for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

Checking such files is a basic procedure in a counterintelligence probe when an informant is involved, officials told Just the News.

The footnote states that an FBI intelligence analyst and a supervisory special agent working on the Crossfire Hurricane probe admitted they "did not recall reviewing information in Steele's Delta file documenting Steele's frequent contacts with representatives for multiple Russian oligarchs in 2015."

"In addition to the information in Steele's Delta file documenting Steele's frequent contacts with representatives for multiple Russian oligarch, we identified reporting the Crossfire Hurricane team received [redacted] indicating the potential for Russia disinformation influencing Steele's election reporting," a second footnote revealed.

Specifically, that footnote added: "A [redacted] 2017 report relayed information from [redacted] outlining an inaccuracy in a limited subset of Steele's reporting about the activities of (former Trump lawyer) Michael Cohen. The [redacted] stated that it did not have high confidence in this subset of Steele's reporting and assessed that the referenced subset was part of a Russian disinformation campaign to denigrate U.S. foreign relations."

No, this is just more of the same BS. The same coverup. See, Steele didn’t create this, he was tricked by...THE RUSSIANS.
You swallow this, that means the whole “crossfire hurricane” was legit. They just got tricked.

The truth, Steele created the whole thing right there in his office. It was a deliberate scam, designed to sink Trump. The only Russian involved was Skirpal, an associate of Steele who was later poisoned with Fentanyl (not nerve gas) to clean up a detail.

Skirpal had worked with Steele in the past, and after serving a sentence in Russia for being an MI-5 double agent, he was released in a spy swap. He had been living in the UK for years. He helped give the dossier it’s “Russian flavor”.

The entire story is 100% Bullshit, including this. They were deliberate conspirators, not hard working patriots duped by Russia disinformation.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Steele were on Putin’s payroll. I have to hand to them - the Russians have always been good at disinformation operations. This particular operation tied up an American president for 3 years, and the aftereffects are still reverberating through his first term in terms of approval numbers that are several % points lower than where they should be.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Infektion

Trump should simply say that Putin ran an operation against him, and the Democrats colluded with Putin to smear him.

Also, their story doesn’t pass the straight face test.
The Russians supported Trump so they hacked Hillary’s emails. Ok, got it, so what do they do next to hurt Hillary? Why, they release a “dossier” claiming that Trump, the world famous germaphobe who they support, had a golden shower party in Moscow.

So when THAT retarded detail was pointed out, the story changed again. They just hate America and wanted to hurt BOTH campaigns equally to “sow discord”.

Meanwhile, nobody looks at the flood of Ukrainians in our government, and the Neocon and Democrat hogs feeding at that trough.

The whole thing is BS.

Subpoenas? Wow, a year in and know he is getting testimony!
At best some low level flunkie will get a charge for signing the wrong form or something.

But he will never arrest and prosecute the coup leaders and participants. Brennan, Comey, Strzok, Paige, Halper who is still there in London, getting his CIA paycheck, never interviewed.

Laughable to watch this “investigation”. He’s just now questioning witnesses. No 5am SWAT raids, no low level arrests to squeeze them. Just now starting to use a grand jury to ask questions?
There is no way the bagpiper is going to bring highly charged political crimes to court just before the election.

They are running out the clock. If Trump loses, it drops dead. If he wins, then it gets so stale nobody pursues it.

This is clean up and nothing more.

That would be a lie. All the evidence is that MI-5 and the five eyes group worked with our CIA/FBI in a coup attempt. The Russians were bystanders.

Trump was running on a platform of ending the war in Syria and overall better relations with Russia. They had zero reason to sabotage Trump. Trump had the same mentality with North Korea. He was very opposed to the permanent wars and cold wars and NATO. That interrupts a lot of money and power.
The neocon repubs and dems have opposed him because they are paid for, not because they are patriots.

This narrative of Russian interference has been mostly driven by democrats with willing repubs standing aside. Hillary literally started this scam the morning after the election when she came out for that purple press conference.

Trump should never accept the democrat explanation.

IMO these are witnesses confirming what they know about a number of targets. Then come the indictments and up the ladder we go. None of these probably went to a target.

It’s not inconceivable that left-wingers among the Five Eyes collaborated with the Russians against a common enemy*. Kim Philby, et al were Russian agents. And we obviously worked with the Russians to fight the Germans even though the Russians helped the Germans invade Poland, France and the Low Countries. No Russian help for Germany, no WWII in Europe.

* Trump has said a lot of nice things about Putin while kicking him under the table. Pulling out of arms treaties, sending lethal aid to Ukraine, ramping up sanctions on his cronies, whacking hundreds of Russian mercs in Syria - it’s the classic sales technique of buttering up a customer while tacking on extras that add to the rube’s final tab, and jacking up his interest rate. Same kind of thing he’s been doing with Xi.

The basic point is that Five Eyes security people are all nutless doves who have presided over a 75% decline in defense expenditures, as a % of national output, under Cold War levels. Even the US has seen a 50% decline despite a couple of desultory ongoing wars.

This story will not get the exposure it deserves. What it reveals is enormous on multiple levels.

1) The “intelligence community” KNEW Steele was buddied up with Russian oligarchs, and that he was serving as a conduit for Russian Intelligence Services’ disinformation.
2) There is no way in hell the FBI/DoJ personnel did not know the contents of Steele’s file. They could not be that incompetent when the subject of the investigation was a Presidential candidate and then an elected President.
3) That meant the FBI/DoJ had to treat the entirety of Steele’s work product as tainted and worthless.
4) In light of this, Steele and his daisy chain of employers (Fusion; Perkins-Coie; Hillary Clinton; DNC) would have to be considered as either working with the Russian IC to sabotage Trump, or were imbeciles.
5) The FBI Director had an obligation to tell the public.
6) What legitimate reason would the FBI/DoJ have to redact this information from Horowitz’s report to Congress? The ONLY reason was to prevent the truth from coming out.
7) WHO redacted it? That person or persons perpetrated a material coverup, and must be outed, fired, and prosecuted.

My hypothesis is a little different: Steele’s association with Russian oligarchs is the only thing that lent any superficial credibility to his story. My bet is that Steele created the whole novella himself.

some of the information he provided agents in his dossier appeared to be misinformation planted by Russian intelligence, according to declassified information made public Friday.

So, lemme get this straight. The Democrats colluded with Russia AGAINST Trump?

Do I have that right?

The exact opposite of the Russian Collusion narrative?

Imagine that.
