Is America a Roaring Giant or Crying Baby?

Marshal Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto commanded the Imperial Japanese Navy in World War II until he was killed in April 1943. Despite the dialogue from the 1970 WWII film "Tora! Tora! Tora!" Yamamoto probably did not say in the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

But Yamamoto likely either wrote or said something similar: "I can run wild for six months ... after that, I have no expectation of success."

Yamamoto summed up a general feeling among the Japanese admirals that the huge industrial capacity of the U.S. -- which had been asleep during the Great Depression -- along with the righteous anger and frenzy of an aroused American democracy would ensure the destruction of the Japanese Empire in short order.

They were right.

In 1940, there were fewer than 500,000 service members in the U.S. military. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attack, that number had grown to nearly 2.2 million. By 1945, more than 12 million Americans were in the armed services. It was an astonishing mobilization for a nation of fewer than 140 million people.

The U.S. started the war with seven fleet aircraft carriers and one escort carrier. By war's end, it was deploying 27 fleet and 72 escort carriers.

The U.S. Navy ended the war with a fleet eight times larger than it was at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The American armada would become larger in total tonnage than all the world's fleets in 1945 combined.

The roaring giant U.S. is like Gulliver with all the liberal Lilliputtions tying us down.

I agree with VDH. We, as a nation, stand at a crossroad. The choice seems simple enough, black or white. The progressive left, however, with moral relativism as a driving principle, loves to play in muddy greys, regardless of, and oblivious to, the human costs when the agenda is all that matters.

Is America a Roaring Giant or Crying Baby?

Neither.

It is a downed wildebeast, with all the hyenas circling for a bite.

VDH mentions fracking. Cuomo and the NYS legislature just banned it. Permanently.

Note to the rest of the nation: If you’re smart you’ll keep that mind when Albany demands a bigger bailout.

The coronavirus is not a friend to those liberals in America (and elsewhere) who try to convince us that reality is what we want it--believe it--to be.

This virus just proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that reality exists and behaves quite independently of our wishes and desires.

Reality just gave the middle finger to the Left.

Well I’m going to say it Part of this equation is whether doctors Fauxi & Barx report to President Trump or President Trump reports to them. Another thing when he says the country is open for business are the governors going to listen or is he going to just pass the buck to them and say well it’s up to them not put any pressure on them. It better be huge, visible pressure, with nowhere to hide. I believe in states’ rights, but putting pressure on them should also be part of that equation.

Forget about the young people. After seeing the pathetic cowardice on display among older people right here on FR, I’d say most FReepers have lost all credibility when it comes to criticizing others for their toughness in the face of adversity.

To paraphrase Joshua 24:15

We, as a nation, stand at a crossroad.

We’re not a crying baby, we’re just cowering in our homes afraid to breathe and shake hands. I’ve told a few people, “You know they’re lying their asses off, right?” The standard response is always something akin to, “Probably, but what if...?” In other words, most people with two gray cells to rub together know something doesn’t make sense, but they’re still afraid. God help us!

No one in here has stormed Omaha Beach..unless they are approaching 100.
Anyhow, one of our top priorities, if not the top priority, should be controlling our borders. Deporting ALL illegals.

US: Crying Giant, Roaring Baby?

He makes a good case for what we should do, but can we really overcome all the posturing and bickering.
