'Going To Get Involved': Trump To Settle Dispute Between Modly And Fired Capt. Crozier
The Washington Examiner ^ | 04/07/20 | Ben Wolfgang

Posted on 04/07/2020 9:04:50 AM PDT by Enlightened1

President Trump said Monday he is “going to get involved” in settling a heated dispute between Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly and former USS Theodore Roosevelt Capt. Brett Crozier, who was fired last week after writing a letter about a worsening coronavirus outbreak aboard his ship that was later published by the San Francisco Chronicle.

During a press conference at the White House, the president praised both men and said he doesn’t want Capt. Crozier’s career to be ruined because of a “bad day.”

“I’ve heard very good things about the gentleman, both gentlemen,” Mr. Trump said. “I may just get involved … you have two good people and they’re arguing. And I’m good, believe it or not, at settling arguments.”

Capt. Crozier’s “career prior to that was very good,” the president continued, “so I’m going to get involved and see exactly what’s going on there. Because I don’t want to destroy somebody for having a bad day.”

Mr. Trump did not specify exactly how he’ll get involved or what steps he’ll take to settle the controversy.

The president’s comments came on the heels of Mr. Modly addressing the 4,000 crew members of the Roosevelt — which is now docked in Guam after more than 150 sailors tested positive for COVID-19 — and blasting Capt. Crozier.

“If he didn’t think, in my opinion, that this information wasn’t going to get out into the public in this day and information age that we live in, then he was either ‘A’ too naive or too stupid to be commanding officer of a ship like this. The alternative is that he did this on purpose,” Mr. Modly said, according to a transcript and recording of his message over the ship’s public address system.

Let’s face it..TRUMP WILL NEVER EVER DEFEAT THE SWAMP!

I still have hope the Deep State will be abolished in Trump's 2nd term as he will be unleashed without restraint to do what he was elected to do.

That said, it does get challenging at times to maintain a modicum of hope...so hang in there, Rose.

Crosier also allowed liberty in Vietnam during the epidemic

In addition to my question in post #33, how many tested positive for the clap after that liberty?

“There was no real value in going around trashing the guy. He is fired. It is over.”

Exactly. The entire problem came because Modly thought he needed to justify himself to the swabbies. Ten times better not to run to the crew and explain your command decisions.
The whole damned navy is screwed up right now.

First the drag queens at sea, destroyers with women at the helm ramming everything in sight. A nuclear sub sailor does an active shooter thing, the rebellion of a bunch of snowflake SEALs and their officers, Sec Spencer bucking the clear orders of the commander in Chief.

There is a big problem in the USN and it probably cannot be cured without a WWII experience.

The Chinese must be smiling. Knowing they will soon control the China sea without firing a shot.

During a press conference at the White House, the president praised both men and said he doesn’t want Capt. Crozier’s career to be ruined because of a “bad day.”

Mr. President, if you were intervening on behalf of Adm. Husband Kimmel (look him up), who had a very bad day, I would cheer you on.

But Capt. Crozier violated Navy and DOD protocol (and perhaps even the law) when he divulged information related to the combat effectiveness of his ship and crew via non-secure channels. He made piss-poor decision and ended up making a public spectacle of himself and his crew. I don't give a damn how well liked he was.

There are plenty of other military field-grade or higher officers who have used their positions to become martyrs for the deep state. That lesson should have sunk in when you had to deal with the whole 'whistleblower' fiasco.

Don't be an idiot, Mr. President.

Common sense.... that crowding together wasn’t it. And anyway, they should have all been turned to, spray bottles in hand on a disinfecting field day.

I don’t believe that they were performing any pregnancy tests. The more urgent need was to try to save the lives of men and women in uniform during a pandemic.

The president should stay out of this.

It is my opinion that Captain Crozier did all he could. He made Modly aware of the problem and Modly took no immediate action.

I think Captain Crozier made many attempts to get Modly to make a decision, and Modly failed to make the decisions that needed to be made.

Modly claims he had solved the problem and had communicated his plan directly to Crozier. That’s a lie. If Crozier had been told of the plan, Crozier would not have written his letter.

Whether,or not, Crozier had used a classified email system, someone else was going to leak it. As for the number of CCs, I think Crozier was making it clear that he was not going to the fall for incompetence other chain of command, and especially Modly.

Though Classified is it possible that this Captain was in charge of Nuclear Ordnance?

Roger that. Letting the "enemy" know your capabilities are reduced in a public domain? Uh,no. The blank check I signed back in '67 had no exclusion clauses about what might cause my demise in service. Of course circumstances should be mitigated as much as possible. But a panic stricken skipper isn't good.😟😷

The only proper response to that line of inquiry at yesterday’s presser should have been:

“I stand behind the decision of SecNav in these instances.”

Crozier has clearly lost the faith and trust of the commanders above him. He screwed up, bigly. He is paying the price.

“dispute?” - what dispute. The Secretary relieved the skipper of his command for doing something very stupid. The guy is still in the US Navy and still a Captain. The Captain was wrong and this is the price he pays.

I would fire Modly for speaking to the crew the way he did. He obviously does not understand loyalty “up” and loyalty “down”, and to expect anyone who heard his words to ever respect the chain of command again.

The captain had to go, of course, but there is a right way and a wrong way to do things and Modly obviously does not know the difference.

Excuse me, Crozier was called “Chopper” and he mastered the nuclear stuff.

Mr. Trump did not specify exactly how he’ll get involved or what steps he’ll take to settle the controversy.
President Trump doesn’t know yet "exactly how he’ll get involved or what steps he’ll take to settle the controversy.”

And it probably wouldn’t suit his purposes to divulge that right now if he did know.

I am glad Trump is getting involved.
It makes President Trump look sort of Lincolnesque.

I was thinking along those lines too. It might be the reasoning to reinstate him and save face for everyone.

I have read that he sent copies of this email to 20 people. I have also read that his immediate supervisor, the Admiral to whom he answers directly, was aboard that ship, and the captain appears to have ignored his authority.
