Add routine pet checkups to the list of things that will have to wait until the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
On Monday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order prohibiting in-person veterinary services that arent essential and encouraging a shift towards telemedicine through the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.
The order takes effect 5 p.m. March 31.
The prohibition doesnt apply to lifesaving procedures, treating serious pain, necessary euthanizations or necessary treatment of infectious diseases that can be transmitted between animals and human beings. A licensed veterinarian would make the call on whether a service is essential.
The Centers for Disease Control says theres no evidence that pets spread COVID-19 to humans, but in-person veterinary visits can put more people at risk, Whitmer wrote in the order.
"While there is no evidence that pets can transmit COVID-19, we must take additional steps to promote social distancing, Whitmer said in a statement. If we want to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19, all Michiganders must do their part, stay in their homes, and stay six feet away from others when theyre outside.
Telemedicine should be used to the fullest extent possible for both essential and non-essential veterinary services, the order states, and non-essential in-person visits must be postponed.
Also Monday, Whitmer issued a separate executive order suspending the April 1 requirement for lower vapor pressure gasoline due to an unexpected oversupply of higher volatility, winter-blend gasoline.
These Liberal Women Politicians would give Stalin a run for his money.
Your dog’s hopes of gender reassignment will just have to wait.
Nothing is essential. Except doctors, police, firefighters, EMTs and the meter maids who make sure the government gets every last penny they already spent.
But she NEEDS an abortion. It’s healthcare!
And the pets will die. That’s how we to the Planet of the Apes.
My dachshund had a bout of mild pancreatitis last week. Called our vet clinic and their procedure was we went to the office, called from the parking lot saying we arrived, got out of the car, nurse came and took her in on the leash. When the vet saw her, she called on the phone while we were waiting in the car to discuss symptoms, treatment etc. paid by phone, Worked perfect.
Last week, my vet’s office asked people to phone them after they parked in the lot and someone would come out to get the cat or dog. The vet could talk to you by phone or you could lower your car window a bit & the vet would come outside (weather permitting). Pay by credit card over the phone.
My neighbor is wondering if her cat’s Mani, Pedi & Polish session will be okay. “It’s essential to her! She looks forward to her treatments every Thursday.”
Sounds like the Governator is non-essential and needs to be welded into her home and not allowed to go to the Office.
Sounds like it could work very well for many people. My dog would not be that accommodating.
I just don’t get some of these politicians. ‘It’s non-essential’ - no, it’s a yearly checkup to reauthorize the medications the animal gets to prevent heartworm or treat for fleas and ticks, or whatever.
It is probably also the time for re-vaccinations.
“But that’s non-essential, it can be done later...” Sure, tell me when later really is. Set in stone the parameters that will allow free movement again. You’re not doing that? Then get the hell out of the medicine business and let people handle their animal’s health care.
FFS, the power mad elected leaders are just begging for some oil products to be heated to boiling and collection of poultry feathers...
Fortunately I trained my dog to talk like a human from when he was a puppy, so the vet will be able to have wonderful conversation to understand the symptoms.
This is bordering on one of the stupider things anyone has done so far.
Change this little tyrant's name Wretched Witless....
I rather imagine many already call her that, or similar.
LOL. Adult dogs? I thought they were now convincing little puppies of the need for “the change.”
That has been the case here in Oregon since the 19th.... The day I went on unemployment for the first time in my 52 years.
Truth is it is to preserve PPE.
That is how the closing of the sale of homes is being handled by title companies. Substitute legal documents for pets.
It’s Michigan.
Colt (oops, I mean fetal tissue) abortions are necessary
