The Food And Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency authorization Sunday for hydroxychloroquine, a drug already used to treat malaria and other ailments, which has shown anecdotal efficacy against coronavirus.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a statement on Sunday:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to BARDA to allow hydroxychloroquine sulfate and chloroquine phosphate products donated to the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) to be distributed and prescribed by doctors to hospitalized teen and adult patients with COVID-19, as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible.
HHS also noted that it had “accepted 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine sulfate donated by Sandoz, the Novartis generics and biosimilars division, and one million doses of chloroquine phosphate donated by Bayer Pharmaceuticals, for possible use in treating patients hospitalized with COVID-19 or for use in clinical trials.”
Amid concerns that the sudden interest in hydroxychloroquine could cause shortages, HHS noted: “Use of the donated medications is expected to help ease supply pressures for the drug, and the FDA is also working with manufacturers of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine to increase production to ensure these drugs also remain available for patients dependent on them for treatment of malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.”

But I kinda like it this way....you made a fool of yourself with your anecdotal statement. Do you think all these doctors are stupid, too....and ignorant like the President....who gave us hope?
Guys like Fauci live in a bubble. Their lives are research, data, mathematical models. They rarely see the big picture that you must see if you’re in Trump’s position.

THE FDA IS ONLY 3 WEEKS TOO LATE AND 2500 DEATHBED EVENTS.
In other words, they’re bureaucrats. This “controlled study” crap is nonsense, particularly in a case like this. If it MAY work, why not try it damnit! It’s been used for about 80 years with no significant side effects. Furthermore, going through their years-long controlled, double-blind studies has put some pretty horrendous pharmaceuticals on the market that had to be yanked after they killed people. In this case, if it does save some people - which it obviously has and will - isn’t it worth it? What happened to the lefty mantra, “If it only saves one person...”?
Complete crap. You can’t do a double-blind study in a pandemic for ethical reasons (who’s going to be in the control group?). You use empirical evidence and case data and you do the best job you can to find out WHY the method of action is efficacious.
Agreed, yet Fauci continues to assert that any data concerning hydroxychloroquine/azithromycin is meaningless because it hasn’t gone through proper testing, “which would take years.”
I know. He’s starting to give off an odor.
Yup. It’s clear he made that argument to Trump, Trump concluded we just don’t have that kind of time and he forced it through.
