well its all drones now anyway
Because who needs tanks if your goal is to be cannon fodder.
When it said “shrink the force”, I thought they meant make them shorter so they’re the same height as the enemy.
I wonder how they plan to take on China? Maybe in the South China Sea, on those islands. Certainly not mainland China. We cant get there from here. The Chinese will never invade the US either. They dont have the troop transports. They cant even invade Taiwan. I think that if they somehow got thousands of troop transports, the Navy and Air Force would have a field day, sinking them. If any got through, they would face millions of armed and angry American civilians.
Wait, what?
Well with that rationale, why not cut the manpower to zero and solve the problem easily?
As a retiree with 36 years of service I disagree with this man in many areas.
Specifically, his Social Justice everyone gets a ribbon women in the infantry BS. He is an Obama promoted holdover.
But, that said, I have to agree with him in this specific regard. The USMC was never meant to be a US Army unit only smaller.
The foundation of the Corp. Its initial purpose was a Maritime rapid reaction force. Fast, and violent. Tip of the spear. Available on a moment’s notice to rain hell on earth upon you and then move on.
Over time with our success, politicians distorted this foundational mission. They grew the Corp. Expected more and more of the Corp. and mission creep for decades distorted the mission of the Corp.
Until they transformed the Corp.into a smaller version of the US Army. A far less well equipped and far less bureaucratic version of the US Army But, a distortion of what the Corp was all about.
The Corp’s best function is a rapid deployment force of highly motivated and dedicated ass-kickers who are very highly motivated to be the first to engage and kill the enemy by any means necessary.
The American Guerilla force.
Not an occupying force. Not a hearts and minds force. A leading-edge, we’re here to kill you and establish a beachhead presence force.
Unfortunately, I must tell all of you, we do not have a single solitary Admiral or General in our entire military with this attitude. There are no more Pattons. No more Chesty Pullers. Not a Single One.
general Eric Ehinseki all over again.
I’d rather have Marines in space.
Doubt we’ll have another generation of manned tanks in any case. If we do, we shouldn’t.
Remember, this is just for the Marines. Not the Army.
Marines are the smallest branch and are usually the rapid deployment fast in and out units. Not all their missions ever even call for armored mobile artillery.
The smallest branch has pilots, are on ships and on land. They know their deployments and missions the best, and when’s the last time Marines did missions with tanks?
As Chesty Puller rolls over in his grave!
Actually...within 10 years tanks will all be UAVs anyway...probably CAS will be the same. So I get changing the Marine specialties now.
Maybe they will be getting hand held nuclear weapons.
How about converting the V-22 into a flying tank?
WWCS (What Would Chesty Say)? I can’t repeat it here.
The YouTuber named Matsimus, a former-British-Army-and-current-Canadian-Forces combat veteran, has posted this video about the same topic. It contains more information about the related cuts and rationale behind them:

Small units are effective with the proper support. The problems have been:
Artillery -- range
Air support -- weather
Rocket artillery and anti-ship missiles could be real game changers.
That would make being a Marine a tankless job
This guy is an idiot!
Suggest he parachutes into the Mideast naked and uses harsh language, let us know how that rapid deployment works.
This guy may literally be a Manchurian Commandant.
