Imagine one building where 750,000 people shuffle past each other in a day, and which has a ball-room, which as many as 100,000 people enter and leave it during the peak hour. Imagine also that before and after leaving the building that about half sit in little rooms holding 50-100 people for half an hour up to 2 hours then re-sort, pass through one of the three main rooms, and then sit in another little room with 30-50 again for 15 minutes. Now do that twice a day. That’s Grand Central Station with its adjoining Metro North and the subway system.
It’s amazing more people don’t get sick.

At less than 35 homes per mile it made no sense when I was building CATV plant in the 80s. My guess is it hasnt gotten any cheaper.
It’s subsidized, and now they run a fiber out to a node and do cellular.

"The United States, however, already practices a form of social distancing in its daily life through suburban living."
Oh, yeah. We see that, when the slobs are packing themselves elbow to elbow into Walfart.

"Fly-over country could become the new Super-Majority!"
If they, too, could stop being goons and cramming themselves into stuffy Walfart while repeating, "It's only the flu, bro."

New York (Population density: 414 people per square mile) The Adirondack National Park is about 1/4 of NYS's land area.
It's stinking DESOLATE north of the thruway.
I wonder what NY's population density would be if you took out NYC and it's boroughs.

I think NYC skews NYS’s numbers a bit.
https://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/planning-level/nyc-population/population-facts.page
With a July 2015 population of 8,550,405, New York is the most populous city in the United States, more than twice the size of the second largest city, Los Angeles.
About 1 in every 38 people living in the United States resides in New York City.
New York has the highest population density of any major city in the United States, with over 27,000 people per square mile.
New York City has more people than 40 of the 50 U.S. states.
New York City comprises over two-fifths of New York States entire population.

"Have you been in a grocery store lately? I live in a small town in a rural area. It has four grocery storesall of which are packed with jackasses pulling everything they can grab off the shelves and piling shopping carts to overflowing. No social distancing going on there, people practically cheek by jowl, standing in long crowded lines at checkout. In Pennsylvania the governor has ordered a shut down of all but life-sustaining businesses and told people to stay home.
So, I have to stay home from work along with everyone else but now, people who arent working are jamming the grocery stores. It is the dumbest thing Ive ever seen. I was safer at work."
Yep. Those are the hubs that the virus will explode from. Some of the *big stores* (see flower or "spark") have tens of thousands of people crowding into each store per week--people from several states.

Even in the major population centers, outside of the coasts we don’t live on top of each other.

Got a good month plus of staples but might need some milk or eggs in a week or two. My wife said flaxseed meal can work as an egg substitute for baking.
The basic ratio is one tablespoon of flax seeds and three tablespoons of water to replace one egg. You'll need to grind the flax seeds into a fine powder using a coffee or spice grinder (or use 2 1/2 teaspoons pre-ground), and then you simply whisk in the water until it becomes gelatinous.
