Had an odd thought last night about corporate post-911 strategies, and wondered if Hilton/Marriott etc are interrupting the supply farther up the chain.

When I go to a business banquet, the fruit displays are from fruit of quality I will never find in my local grocery store or local fruit/veg distributor....

I checked a lot of stores looking for a couple extra boxes of Kleenex...the local Rouses actually had some along with some TP and paper towels.

The only thing I haven't been able to find is some spray Lysol - don't really consider it necessary but the wife would feel better if we had a can.

A while back, she bought 3 plastic "cans" of wipes so we each keep on in our cars and have a spare "just in case" they aren't available for one of the grocery stops....but while at home, soap is the most effective way to clean our hands....and that's readily available even if "hand sanitizer" isn't available.

I started using Dr. Teal's Body Wash as my hand soap - lasts a long time for that use, smells good and has Epsom Salts which have anti-bacterial qualities due to the Sulfur content...

I went to the store yesterday at 10 a.m., the soonest I could get there.
The Kroger I frequent looked like an A-10 Wart Hog has spent at least 45 minutes testing it’s weapons.

Produce was half empty. Bananas were spread over two tables to take up empty space. Plantains and tropical fruits were out. Tomatoes were available but variety was limited.
Potatoes were the same. No large bags, only 5 lb bags available.

Meat was scarce, most cuts of beef were available in limited quantities.
Lunch meats were sold out. There was plenty of pastrami and salami left. I was happy.
Ground beef and hot dogs had a very limited supply.

Milk was available. Buttermilk and some specialty milks were out.
Cheese, yogurt, eggs other dairy items were fully stocked.
Not a canned biscuit in the joint.

Frozen food was the empty frozen tundra. Not a pizza to be found. Heat and eat fish and chicken were out. In fact most heat and eat items were out.
That A-10 did a bang up job on the ff.

If frozen food was the frozen tundra the paper aisle was a vast desert completely devoid of life. Not the first package of butt wipe to be found. Paper towels same same. Even paper plates were in short supply.

The bread aisle was the same. Nothing but a few loaves of wheat bread and two couples grabbed them as I walked down the aisle.

Canned goods and the center aisles were thoroughly picked over. Empty slots everywhere.

Dropped by the local Wally World.
Fuhgedaboutit!!
Looked like it had been nuked from orbit. More bare shelves than stocked. The only departments not affected were the clothing, automotive and electronics departments.
Anything food related was gone. Ferals prowled the empty aisles like wildlife looking for that last morsel of food.

Even sporting goods was hit. Ammo, fishing equipment, tents (!?), even the few shotguns and rifles they do carry were sold out. Archery equipment was hard hit too.

Had to go to Kroger this morning at 7 a.m. to get bread and tp. People were grabbing it like no more would ever be made.
Insanity.

I went to pick up some flour. The warehouse store I usually get it from is on reduced hours, so it was closed when I got there.

The other stores I visited were sold out, but for one lonely 5 LB bag of dark rye flour sitting alone on a dusty shelf, surrounded by memories of its neighbors and the occasional tumbleweed...
