Sad. I have a cousin who dropped rapidly into senility. Started babbling nonsense sentences that sounded perfectly rational until you listened to the content.
I have a friend who appears to be showing signs of senility. She’s almost 80, and is otherwise in good health.

The one family member on both sides with alzheimer’s did the “rapidly into senility” thing.
She was out here visiting, I saw/heard a very lucid person go into nonsense babbling or unable to handle a simple ? or suggested in her trip here.
When, she flew back to the midwest, I warned her family back there to meet her at the gate. (before 9/11).
They did, and it was a good thing, she thought that she was flying out to see us. In fact she argued that she would miss her plane to fly out and visit us.
She had no recall of her visit which included a quick outpatient surgery on her wrist with carpal tunnel syndrome. She wondered why her right wrist had a big bandaid on it and a support wrapped around it.
We had two couples/friends whose mothers’ could not figure out how to get home from the church they attended for decades.
There is another lady at our church, who is being picked from her family, brought to church, monitored and taken home after to church and delivered to her family. Her family has stored her car, and secures the keys to their vehicle.
She seemed to be fine these Christmas/New Years.
