Pastor Antonio Velasquez says that before the Trump administration announced a crackdown on immigrants using government social services, people lined up before sunrise outside a state office in a largely Latino Phoenix neighborhood to sign up for food stamps and Medicaid.

'You had to arrive at 3 in the morning, and it might take you until the end of the day,' he said, pointing behind the office in the Maryvale neighborhood to show how long the lines got.
But no one lined up one recent weekday morning, and there were just a handful of people inside.
With new rules taking effect Monday that disqualify more people from green cards if they use government benefits, droves of immigrants, including citizens and legal residents, have dropped social services they or their children may be entitled to out of fear they will be kicked out of the U.S., said Velazquez and other advocates.
'This will bring more poverty, more homeless, more illness,' said Velasquez, a well-known leader among Spanish-speaking immigrants in the Phoenix area.

New rules that say you can’t be on drugs and have to be trying to get a job(or have one but don’t make squat) if you’re able bodied because the free shit is supposed to be a helping hand, not a lifestyle.
If true, then they aren’t actually entitled to those benefits...

I worked on a large-ish commercial project in the DC area in the late-1980s that had a huge drywall crew that were all Mexicans, almost certainly illegals. It has been going on that long.

This is pretty common in CA.
No one is going to go hungry or be deprived. They have been sucking the taxpayer dry for years while depressing wages.
The only change is that they are now going to pay for their own stuff instead of getting the rest of us to subsidize it.
I live in CA. and you can bet a years salary they are voting in droves, maybe all of these laws now being implemented will scare them into NOT voting!!!
If they were here legally and entitled to some aid, then they would have nothing to fear. On the other hand, if they overstayed their visas, worked here illegally, or were here illegally then they were, by law, to be denied this aid.
I fear the pastor protests too much about not enough protections for people who commit fraud against the US govt.

I like Mike Rowe’s “Dirty Jobs”, but he seems to ignore how many of those fields no longer hire Americans. Americans will do any job, but the wages have definitely been suppressed, and jobs don’t offer the benefits legal employment would.
Yes, in the 1980s South Americans started arriving here in NJ in droves (many illegally), with the same effect.
