The Boy Scouts of America, after decades of being crippled by child sex abuse claims, plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy by early Tuesday, the Daily News has learned.

I agree. My husband loved the scouts. His mom was a den mother. My son was in scouts for a few years. We loved that it involved the whole family. He quit when he had to choose between scouts and sports. My daughter dated a boy who became an eagle scout. Beautiful ceremony. So sad.

A boy scout leader dropped by our church letting us know our youth were invited to be part of the local troop.
Appraising the man as he spoke, we declined the offer.

The organization is composed of local councils it might be possible for a group of them since they dropped “Boy” from the name to reorganize and reform it bringing it back to what it was.

Our news here in NJ is treating this as a way for the Scouts to avoid consequences; bankruptcy limits the damages that would be paid. As I understand it, they intend to keep operating.
I’m not sure they’ll find the same pattern of deception, at least at the same levels of the Church, in terms of moving the child rapists around/concealing their past crimes. THAT is where the organization loses heavily in court.

I remember Indian Guides. My brothers were in that and they were always doing cool stuff it seemed. They might have been in Boy Scouts too, all I know is they always did a lot of wilderness stuff. They had real canteens and mess kits.
Yea, Philmont near Cimmarron, NM comes to mind. I grew up near Trinidad, CO and would see busloads of scouts headed south. I have been to Vermejo Ranch several times fishing. It was great before Turner purchased it and ran all of the cattle off.
