Two crew members of the CSX train were initially trapped in a flaming locomotive
LOUISVILLE, Ky. A large rock slide on a rain-saturated mountain caused a fiery train derailment Thursday morning in eastern Kentucky that briefly trapped two crew members and caused a chemical leak into a river, authorities said.
Two crew members of the CSX train were initially trapped in a flaming locomotive along the rivers edge before climbing out and waiting for firefighters to rescue them by boat. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
There weren't any other reports of injuries.
CSX said in a statement that the train derailed into the Big Sandy River about 7 a.m. because of a rock slide over the tracks. The derailment happened in the small Pike County community of Draffin, about 160 miles (255 kilometers) southeast of Lexington, Kentucky. Video showed a wooded area ablaze behind some homes shortly after the derailment occurred.
CSX said the train had 96 cars carrying ethanol and two cars loaded with rocks. Five rail cars derailed four ethanol tanks and one other car CSX said later on Twitter.
One locomotive and other cars caught fire.

They don’t put poison in moonshine.
If anyone cares, I have heard that a sugar wash, twice distilled until you get 160 proof, filtered, infused by putting in cinnamon sticks for 30 days, then diluted to 80 proof, makes an amazing addition to both eggnog and cranberry juice.
Or so I have heard...
Put that cigarette out!!
Good grief. No, one does not poison their moonshine. One distills their moonshine to remove the inherent poisons, one of which just happens to be methanol. The ethanol may be poisoned with something else but if that poison has a lower boil point than alcohol, IT TOO WILL BE DISTILLED and removed from the batch on the first run! The remaining runs are to clarify your brew (other impurities, the headache stuff) and to raise the alcohol %'s. Do yourself a favor should you ever decide to give moonshining a try, have someone around you that knows what they are doing. Just so you know, my recipes and methods are 100+ years old. Nuttins quikker than my corn likker and a country boy can survive.
I’m not sure is it methanol or something else, but the ethanal that is used for fuel gets something added before it leaves the plant that makes it undrinkable and not easily removed.
If they didn’t people would have pure ethanol for less than $2 a gal. The Feds aren’t that stupid.
My Brother worked in a gas plant and he said they put something it that you can’t get out.
Identify the additive. I determine the boil point high/low compared to ethanol (corn likker) and I will remove it. I already know the boil point for ethanol. I control the temp. If it's a lower boil point, it cooks off on the first run. If the boil point is higher than ethanol, it remains in my boiler and gets tossed. In short, there is nothing they can add that cannot be distilled right back out, barring the possibility that the additive has the same boil point of ethanol. That said, knowing the additive, there is probably a binding agent that could be introduced to the brew to make it removable.
I'm not taking a shot at your brother. He is relaying exactly what he has been taught/told by his supers at the plant.
***A side note to the BatFags that might be scanning FReep, no I'm not interested in taking any of your train sets from you. Cracked corn and sugar are readily available and affordable. I just happen to be good at it and thoroughly enjoy the process.*** Plus, it's been 7 years since my last batch and that was good to the last drop! Brewing is one of the very few things that I got right in this life! Thanks Dad!
1950s Navy here. We had alcohol for our torpedoes that was tinged pink and therefore called "Pink Lady". I asked one of the WWII vets why it was that way. He said that in the early days, the fuel was pure 180 proof alcohol.
Overseas, some supply officer wondered why there was such a demand for pineapple or grapefruit juice - far above normal usage. It turned out it was a great mixer for that level of alcohol and the men would get blitzed out of their mind.**
Some spoilsport suggested adding in something to make it undrinkable and the color just happened to be pink. They used it all the time I was in, but I did see a couple of mess stewards use it as a body wash before going ashore after a stint of sea duty.
**One torpedoman told me that, after a night of drinking that mixture, he woke up, unable to move anything but his eyes. That lasted about an hour and scared the Hell out of him. Never did it again. He said some guys went blind from too much of that stuff.
