Some coronavirus testing kits sent around the world are not working properly

As experts hustled to create diagnostic testing kits for the novel coronavirus, something went awry. At least some of the testing kits that were sent across the U.S. and to dozens of other countries aren't working properly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced during a news conference today (Feb. 12).

Last week, the CDC had begun to ship about 200 testing kits to labs across the U.S. and 200 more to over 30 other countries so that more facilities could conduct testing for the new coronavirus. Each kit could test about 700 to 800 samples, the CDC announced last week.

Who made these kits?
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

That’s good to know that they have protocol to test this stuff. In the haz-waste field you have to test the monitoring gear each day to a known sample to make sure it is working properly.

Makes sense that in this life/death situation they would have similar. Although I wonder if they do it for each test - or just on the bulk package?

Makes you wonder....if you tested a thousand people and they all passed...if the tests were faulty, and 500 of them had the virus, you would have a serious problem. Or you could have a thousand healthy people who fail and get thrown into a quarantine building....only to discover a week later that you now have the virus for sure.

Faulty tests. Probably made by the same company that made all the fake meds HRC and her ilk were selling WW.

Depends on who is running the, test. An accredited lab has a much stricter quality control than your doctors office or bedside test in the emergency department. First gen kit tests have a higher false pos and false neg. Its the nature of test development.

Thinking that’s what happened at Lackland AFB. They are saying two weeks for the tests or lab. Excuse me, but the evacuees will be walking out the door in two weeks.
