The Senate impeachment trial of President Trump ended not with a bang but a whimper. What different outcome could one expect from a trial without so much as a single witness, a single document, any cross-examination or a defendant respectful enough to show up?
Law students are taught early on that a trial is not a grudge match or an ordeal; it is a search for the truth. Trial lawyers know that cross-examination is the most effective truth-testing tool available to them.
But the search for the truth requires witnesses, and when the command from Senate Republican leaders came down that there shall be no witnesses, the truth-telling mission of Trump's trial was radically transformed into a steamroller of political power.

I stopped watching Fox News a long time ago. I used to have it on 24/7, but when they called the 2000 election for Gore before the polls in the Panhandle closed, and they had to walk it back...that was it...I turned them off. On 9/11 I turned them on again, but only for intermittent viewing. When Obama was elected, I couldn't stand to see his face on TV every day, and shut it off. I don't watch any TV news at all anymore...and only watch certain things, like the SOTU speech last night, on the internet. Fox has been worthless for years. The only thing they're good at is having technical difficulties.

That's a lie. There were, in fact, 18 witnesses, of whom 17 had testimony presented and one was kept back by Schiff. Napolitano is apparently of the opinion that the jury gets to call witnesses here. It doesn't.

This little man … Fox has his lies on... WHY? He can’t tell it like it is... he hates Trump because this little man is thinking only of himself.. so why does Fox give him any time to spread that anger/resentment. He comes on, I mute it or turn channel...
One more item... there is not enough talk back when they report the polls... or when they talk about why is he hated by so many.
Those people are younger than 50.. usually... and they are not taken by all the bad reporting all over the country.. they dismiss most of the 24/7 attacking Trump... it comes with the territory.
NO it does not come with the territory until this past 2 elections... Obama set so much dirty policy and habits.... he spread it all around.
There are older citizens who vote.. they don’t go out a lot.. they watch TV and many of them only get the local or the basic TV cable.... I know some of these people. They are from a generation where people spoke the truth... so they hear this from the media and have a lousy picture of Trump. Impeached, even.... he must awful!
The gop needs to speak up more to these points.... the gop needs to learn how to not let lies sit there long enough that they seep into listeners’ heads.
